I have an HP Officejet 4620, and I'm trying to set it up on a WiFi network. I was able to intially able to set it up at my home WiFi network, but I travel for work and when I take it with me and try to set it up on a new network, I haven't been able to get it to work. I've run the network installer numerous times, entered the correct password, but it tells me to connect the printer via a USB device (even though it's already connected with a USB cord). What else can I do? I tried to run a firmware update, but the updater told me that my printer didn't have an update available.

I'm on a Mac running OS 10.6.

I think the best bet is to Restore Wireless Defaults on the front of the printer BEFORE trying to connect it to a new network.

Yes, I've tried that. Still no luck.

The setup of this printer to a new network requires running the HP software.  When you run that software it will search for networks and then ask you to connect the USB cable.  Do not connect the USB cable before the software asks you to.

Honestly, I see a couple of potential issues with doing this:

1. If these networks are like hotel or business networks, they may not accept your printer or allow communication.

2. Doing this software-style connection is painful and was not designed to be done repetitively.  If you are going to do a lot of this in the future, I recommend getting a printer that has a Wireless Setup Wizard on the front panel of the printer, which will not require running the HP software and messing with a USB cable every time you connect.

I am running the HP installer. What printer could I have gotten that would work better? Honestly I'm very disappointed that this wasn't better advertised, or better described on the website.

I am not sure the connection methods are listed in the marketing materials.

Let me know what you need in a printer and I can recommend one with front panel wireless setup.

I've just purchased this printer and guess what?  Yup, won't connect to wireless.

My ipad connects to my router

My Samsung Phone connects to my router

My iphone connects to my router

My HTC One Connects to my router

My HP PC connects to my router

Now interestingly if I set the wireless mode to "g" it works - but I want all my devices connecting on N - The printer says it's compatible with N and all my other devices work.

Please advise what I can do to get this printer working on N?

ok, just read some FAQ - it's not compatible with N series in 5GH.

That's rubbish isn't it - why's that?

Been doing some tests and basically I can only connect at g+54mbps.

So all that gumph on the box about compatibility just isn't true?

I purchased the HP Officejet 4620 since it has the wireless capability that i was looking for. I have not been able to connect to the wireless. I am running Windows 7 and doing these steps -

-  Starting HP OfficeJet 4620 Series program

- Connect a new printer

- Selecting Wireless - Connect the printer to to your wireless network and internet

- It does a checking network environment

- Temporarily connect a USB cable to enable wireless setup.  I have connected the USB wire at this stage.

- The Next button is greyed out, cannot choose this option.

I have tried to reboot the laptop, printer and removed and put back the USB cable. It just doesn't seem to connect. Not sure what I am doing wrong. I am thinking about returning this product back to Best Buy where i purchased this from. We wanted to buy 5 of these units for our small office, but looking at alternatives here.
