Hi Denis88,

I see by your post that the printer isn't going into sleep mode.
I can help you with this issue.

Make sure the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet. (don't use a power hub or a surge protector)

I would update the printer's firmware if the printer won't go into sleep mode.

HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M177fw Drivers.

Select your operating system, click next, click the link for firmware.

I have provided some information from the manual for the sleep mode that you can check out.

COLOR LASERJET PRO MFP.

EcoSMART Console: Change the default times for entering Sleep mode or Auto Power
Down mode. Configure which events cause the product to wake.

Printer Settings Auto-off Configure the product to automatically turn off after a period of
inactivity. You can adjust the number of minutes after which the product turns off.

Touchscreen control panel:

1. From the Home screen on the product control panel, touch the Setup button.
2. Open the following menus:
 System Setup
 Energy Settings
 Sleep/Auto Off After
3. Select the time for the Sleep/Auto Off delay.
NOTE: The default value is 15 Minutes.
4. The product automatically wakes when it receives jobs or when you touch the screen on the product
control panel.

You can change which events cause the product to wake. Open the following menus:
 System Setup
 Energy Settings
 Wake/Auto On Events
To turn off a wake event, select the event, and then select the No option.

Hope this helps resolve your issue.

Have a nice day!
Thank You.

Thanks, but it did not help me. A little clarification. After printing, the printer goes into sleep mode correctly (in the time interval specified in the printer settings). But after scanning - it does not go into sleep mode.

Hi Denis88,

Thanks for providing that information.

I would power cycle the router and setup a static IP address to see if that will resolve the issue.

Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection.

Disregard the title.

Go to Solution three: Assign the printer a static IP address.

Let me know the results please. Smiley Happy

Thank You.

I'm exactly experiencing the same behavior here. Did you find a solution? I also have issues sending print jobs to the printer after a couple of days of inactivity. I can still access the printer (also the web access), but print jobs hang after 30% or so. Rebooting the printer solves the problem, but I don't see this as a good solution. Typically the printer works for a couple of days without a problem before this it fails.

Hi @mvandekorput ,

I read your post and see that the printer isn't waking up to print. I would like to help you.

Did you turn on all the Wake Events and setup a Static IP for the printer yet?

You may also need to update the printer's firmware if you haven't already.

I would try the following to see if it will resolve the issue. You might need to contact the router company to make those changes.

  • Assign a static IP address to the printer. (outside the DHCP range)
  • Make sure that on your wireless modem, the channels for 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz are fixed and are not set to automatic !
  • The printer is only capable of sending/receiving in the 2.4Ghz band. Select channel 6 for 2.4Ghz and channel 36 for 5Ghz frequency.
  • The WPA key setting needs to be on AES to work correctly not TKIP.

Please let me know the results.

Have a nice day!
Thank You.

Hi, thanks for your suggestions. Since my printer is actually close to a fixed network connection, I changed from wireless to wired today. I will keep you posted on the result.

I also called the local HP support desk in The Netherlands. The support guy talked to one of the product specialists and then came back with the message that both problems (not waking from sleep and not getting to sleep after scanning) are both known problems which will be addressed in a soon-to-be-released firmware update. Can you confirm this? Do you know when we can expect this firmware update to arrive?

Thanks for your help!
