I am having trouble installing the driver for HP LaserJet P1005 on Windows 8.1 64bit on retina MacBookPro 2013. I have tried both 32 and 64 bit drivers and also a driver for Windows 7 run under compatibility mode. It always fails with the dialog as in this screenshot:
It is in Slovak, but it says "Program Printer Software stopped working".
Is there any way I can install the printer?

you have to do a few activities:
Don't run, but unzip file “ljP1000_P1500-HB-pnp-win64-en.exe“ (Released: 2013-05-24)
Create a directory named „Slovak” in the same place as „English” directory and copy into it all from English.
Make a copy „drv“ directory to directories „English“ and „Slovak“.
Then run setup.

If you have other than the English version of Windows 8.x, you probably have to do a few "activities":
Don't run, but unzip file “ljP1000_P1500-HB-pnp-win64-en.exe“ (Download from page: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategor
y?os=4158&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=3435 ... )
Open the file HPLJP1005.INF and try to find out the name of the directory (depends on the language of your windows) which you will need to create. Look „LANGDIR“ attribute... As an Example for LANGDIR I chose "Slovak".
Create a directory named "Slovak” in the same place as "English” directory and copy into it all from English.
Insert copy of the "drv“ directory to directories "English“ and "Slovak“.
Then run setup.

You are genius. After hours of trying all different installation/uninstallation setups, it works perfect.
PS: by „drv“ directory you meant „drv“ file.
