HP Officejet 8500 A909a & Windows 8 Pro 64 bits

Hi HP Support & Friends:

I have a HP Officejet 8500 A909a and my PC has the new Windows 8 Pro 64 bits....ok...when I connected Officejet 8500 to my PC...into the Devices...I only have Officejet Pro 8500 A909a (Scanner) and doesn't work....and don't have the Printer Driver

in a few words, How can I install HP Officejet 8500 A909a Printer & Scanner Devices on Windows 8 Pro 64 bits?

Thanks

Re: HP Officejet 8500 A909a & Windows 8 Pro 64 bits

Hi,

Hopefully someone may have an answer for you in few months time. Too early to say at this time. Like all vendors, HP will definitely release drivers for its products but not all, some older products may miss out. Again, not just HP, all vendors.

It does make sense doesn't it.

I have the printer connected by Ethernet, and I was able to get the printer working by manualling adding it.  First I deleted the existing a909a printer which, as you say, does not work.  (Right click and choose "remove device".)

I got my networked 8500 working by doing the following:

  1. Give your printer a static IP (can be done directly on the printer or with static address reservations in your router)
  2. Download the Windows 7 x64 IT advanced drivers HERE
  3. Run the EXE file and note the directory where you extracted it
  4. Open the Control Panel
  5. Choose "Hardware and Sound"
  6. Choose "Advanced printer setup"
  7. Click "The printer that I want isn't listed"
  8. Choose "Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname"
  9. Device type: TCP/IP Device
  10. Hostname of IP Address: Enter the static IP address you assigned in step 1
  11. Port name: Will automatically be the same as step 10, but you can change to whatever you want.
  12. Make sure "Query the printer and automatically select the driver to use" is checked.
  13. Choose "Have disk"
  14. Browse to the directory to which you extracted the files in step 3.
  15. Select the printer that matches your model.

This won't install the HP solution center or give you any faxing/scanning capabilities.  However, it does print perfectly fine.

If you have installed your printer via USB, you should be able to get it working by choosing "Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings" instead in step 8.

Re: HP Officejet 8500 A909a & Windows 8 Pro 64 bits

Right I hope someone can answer this, as I cannot be alone.

Installed W8 upgrade, HP Officejet 8500 A909a did not function 100%, noticed W8 had replaced driver with HP9CD2D/CB022A and Digital Imaging Monitor would not work.

Decided to uninstall , problem it did not like it, try install new driver and software, did not like that either.

In the end decided to do a clean install of W8, installed new HP driver and software for W8, and I am amazed to see 2 HP Printes one is the HP8500 A909a and the other HP9CD2D(8500 A909a).

Can I assume the HP9CD2D loaded because it picked up the printer through the network before I installed new Driver and Software ?

All very odd, even my laptop did not escape although this time I installed W8 upgrade the installed new HP driver and software, this time it said removing old driver and software first, however this failed but it said continue and reboot which I did, it seems to work but again I have 2 printers as above installed.

If HP support read this, what's the answer if any.

HP Officejet 8500 A909a & Windows 8 Pro 64 bits

steve3948,

Looking over this list of compatible windows 8 printers I do not see the 8500 included. It seems functionality cannot be guaranteed at this time and I have no information as if/when that functionality would come:

Sorry for the bad news,
Best of Luck!

Hello. Quick note since I am trying to get the same model going after upgrading to Windows 8. The IT & Full Software Package IS available in the downloads section. It's an Officejet Pro 8500 and it's easy to find both install packages as well as the tools and utilities. Just make sure you look in the PRO section.... (So far, nothing is working as planned but we'll keep at until it does).

Re: HP Officejet 8500 A909a & Windows 8 Pro 64 bits

I had the same problem when I got my new Envy 23 touchsmart with Windows 8, my 8500 would show up as a scanner, but not printer. I talked to customer support and was told to go to www.hp.com/customercare. You enter in your product code which is CB022A for this particular printer. It will take you to a page where you can install the new drivers so it will work with Windows 8. I hope that is helpful!

YES YES YES! After {Filter Evasion Removed} around for 3 days trying to get my Office jet 8500 working in Windows 8 . . this is the solution.
Go to www.hp.com/customercare and enter the Product code CB022A.
Follow the Download link and . . . magic happens. The software and drivers are installed and work perfectly as if you just bought the printer.
Good luck to All
