HP laserjet 3015 problems with windows 7

Hi,

I have an HP laserjet 3015 all-in-one printer, which is working fine at my windows XP machines. However, on my windows 7 (64 bit) machine I have some problems:

- the printer doesn't print multiple copies

- the printer doesn't wait for manual paper feeding (neither for double-sided printing or for 'manual feed tray'

The XP machines use PCL6, but on the windows 7 machine, only PCL5 is available at the printer-installation-wizard (even after clicking 'windows update'). It seems that the universal printer drivers, which are listed at the driver-page for the 3015, don't support manual feeding at all.

Does anybody know what I should do to make it work?

Re: HP laserjet 3015 problems with windows 7

I would recommend that you try the Universal Print Driver.  This is the driver that I use on all my Win machines and it works with a wide range of Lacerates.  I have not specifically tried this driver with the Laser 3015.

Win7 32bit PCL6 Driver Link

Win7 64bit

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=18...

There are also versions of the driver for PostScript & PCL5.

There is also a link for instructions on how to install the driver in Win7

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?&objectID=c02536257

One last link.... I found alink for using Scan and Fax Software in Win7 when the functionality is not available via the driver.

I hope this information helps resolve your issues.  If not, post back.

Re: HP laserjet 3015 problems with windows 7

Thanks for your reply. I've already tried the UDP, but that didn't solve my problem because it seems that the UDP doesn't support manual feeding or manual duplexing (read: I can't find these options in the settings panel).

Some side notes:

- the UDP PCL 5 does print multiple copies, in contrast with the regular PCL5 driver

- when I use UDP PCL 6, it only prints error messages (UnsupportedProtocol)

Re: HP laserjet 3015 problems with windows 7

Manual Duplex enables itself when the duplexer is not installed or when using a media type not supported by the duplexer.  "Print on Both Sides" becomes "Print on Both Sides (Manually)".   However, it's not clear to me that all products that can support manual duplexing can do manual duplexing with the UPD based on additional research.

Page 56 of ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL39349/lj-95982-1/UPD_Systems_Admininistrator_Guide_5.3_Ed...

Using the UPD PCL5 driver, one thing you can try (I am not sure it will work) is to open devices and printer, right click on your printer and select "Printer properties".   Then click "Device Settings" and scroll down until you find "DuplexUnit (for 2-sided Printing):"  Change the setting to "Not Installed" and hit OK.

IF the UPD support manual duplexing for your product, this should cause the "Print on both sides" on the Finishing Tab  to change to "Print on both sides (Manually)".  If it is not supported, you will lose the option completely.  I lost the option completely on my printer.

If this works, you can create 2 instances of the printer, one for Manual Duplexing, and one for auto duplexing.

I have been trying to find another solution.  Unfortunately I have not been able to come up with anything better than the following:

My printer at home also supports manual duplex from Tray 1.  I am running Win7 64bit OS and my at home printer is a Color LaserJet 3700.

I downloaded the Vista 64bit PCL5 Driver for the Color LaserJet 3000.  I chose this because of the incompatibility with PCL6 in your post.  I am not sure if the CLJ3000 PCL6 driver will work or not on your printer.

I used Add A Printer to install the CLJ3000 driver using Local Printer and Printing to a File.  This is so that it would not check the printer I will eventually point it to and see that it was not a CLJ3000.  Once installed I changed the point to the IP address of the CLJ3700 and did a test page.

Since it did not contact the printer for configuration, it installed the driver with no duplex option.  On the Finishing Tab, I see "Print on both sides (manually)".  Trying a test document, it manually duplexed.

A couple warnings:

  • Even though this worked for me, it may not work for you and I don't have the ability to test it for you.  PCL5 has been stable for many years without any changes in the language that I am aware of.  I think this has a good possibility of working.
  • The "Print On Both Sides Instructions" window may not be accurate for your printer.  You may have to experiment with it.
  • You may lose multiple copy functionality with this driver.  So, I would recommend having one driver for multiple copies, another for Manual Duplex.

Re: HP laserjet 3015 problems with windows 7

Hi dungvima,

I will try to help but I need to understand more about the driver you are looking for.

I would assume that you are looking for the LaserJet 3015 driver for Win7 Professional 64bit.

It appears that the links I had in an earlier post may not be working the way I thought they would.

This link that follows is for the Win7 64bit OS and has links to the 64bit UPD drivers that support the LaserJet 3015.

If you are looking for a drivers for a different product, please send the information on which model it is.

Re: HP laserjet 3015 problems with windows 7

Hi dungvima,

It looks like I didn't actually include the link that I had intended.  Sorry for that.

This is the link I meant to post:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=378050&p...

If the link above does not work for you, please try the following.  I have added the links that I see in case those may work.

Open:  http://www.hp.com/go/UPD

Click on the "Download Software" link on the right hand side under "Free Download":

http://www.hp.com/go/universalprintdriver_software

Click on the link for "HP Universal Print Driver for Windows 64-bit PCL 6".

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?prodNameId=3271552&locale=en_US&...

Then, click on the link for "Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)"

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=3271552&...

There will be a section titled "Driver - Universal Print Driver". Click "Download" for the printer language you want to install.
