Installation Fails on C8100

I am getting installl failures with my C8100.  I am attempting to install the software on a Dell E5410 with windows XP.   I previously successfully installed this software on this machine, but it was blown away by a configuration upgrade from work.

Now the installation wont complete, exiting with a "Fatal Error"  MSI failure   The failure code is 1904.   hpqcxs08.dll failed to register.

I have followed the instructions for this error and run  Access denied 1_3_4.exe

Help?

Re: Installation Fails on C8100

I have already follow the article but the same error occurs.    The article calls for running the access denied utility, which I have done, to no avail.  Other suggestions?

Re: Installation Fails on C8100

Hello Bears

You mentioned a configuration update from work. Is your laptop a work laptop? They may have changed your permissions thus causing the access the denied problem. Have you spoken with whoever configured it? Are you an Full Administrator on your laptop or are you granted permissions? If your not sure you may want to inquire about it.

Re: Installation Fails on C8100

Yes, I have had the IT department involved.  They do not understand the issue.   I operate with permissions, but we cant identify what changed.  Are there areas we should look at, other than those addressed by the access denied utility?

Re: Installation Fails on C8100

Hello again Bears

Please try the following procedure.

From Original installation CD:

2. Open My Computer, and then right click on the CD drive and chose open

3. Open folder Util

4. Open folder CCC

5. If you have an HP computer run the L3uninstall.exe. If you have a non-HP computer run the L4uninstall.exe

6. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer

7. Run Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tools

8. Download and install the latest version of Adobe flash player

http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

9. Download the full feature software and drivers

Photosmart C8100 Software (Win XP)

10. Run the download to reinstall the printer

If software was downloaded and extracted to your system:

1. Type %temp% in the run field

2. Look for, and open the folder starting with 7z (Example: 7zS2356)

3. Open folder Util

4. Open folder CCC

5. If you have an HP computer run the L3uninstall.exe. If you have a non-HP computer run the L4uninstall.exe

6. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer

7. Run Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tools

8. Download and install the latest version of Adobe flash player

http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

9. Download the full feature software and drivers

Photosmart C8100 Software (Win XP)

10. Run the download to reinstall the printer

One last thing which version of the driver are you using? (Full Feature, Basic, Driver Bundle)

Re: Installation Fails on C8100

Thanks.  I'll try it.   I have tried all three versions with the same result.

Re: Installation Fails on C8100

Hello Bears

I do hope the above works for you. It should scrub the installation and hopefully get the software to install correctly. Let me know how it goes. Also all three of the software versions give you the same Fatal Error? For the most part Fatal Errors are somewhat hard to fix because it has to do with MSI (Microsoft Software Installer).

As a last resort your IT team may need to backup your laptop and reformat it. Since it was working previously something they changed during the update must have messed with permissions or more.

Re: Installation Fails on C8100

Hello Bears

Hopefully we can figure this out. How are you connecting the printer (USB or Network)? Have you tried installing the opposite yet?
