Re: My computer does not recognize my printer on the network

Kindly post more of your details like:

OS (win 7; vista; or xp)

Anti-Virus (norton; mcaffee; etc...)

based on your problem theres a possibility that the printer is not yet connected to your network or something is blocking it from being detected.

try downloading the HP Network Diagnostic utility from here:

www.hp.com/go/tools

Re: My computer does not recognize my printer on the network

Update:

Before I restarted the computer, I unplugged the power on the (reset)HP printer for 15 seconds, and pluged the power back in. The Ethernet light went back on, (on the Printer). Restarted the computer and again repeated the steps above and nothing still "no connectivity" between computer and printer. Then I noticed a USB port on the back of the printer, so I thought Hmm, if I cant connect through my Ethernet, why dont I try using the USB port on the back of the printer, so i dug up a cable from storage and connected my computer to the USB...and guess what? It worked, the computer recognized the printer, loaded the drivers and now Im able to print flawlessly. But that still doesnt address the Ethernet problem....this is a new computer only 6 mos old...could it be my cable or Network adapter? If so why would my printer recognize my computer, but my computer not recognize my printer? I know this because of two things, from a cold boot w/my printer connected through the Ethernet connection, the Ethernet light button on my HP printer would illuminate. The other way was, when unplugging the Ethernet Cable from the computer the HP ethernet printer light would go out, plug back in and its on...clearly a connection. Im still very perplexed...can you help.

Re: My computer does not recognize my printer on the network

so basically your printer is plugged in to your wireless router right?

things that i've noticed:

1. your ip address for the printer is incorrect

->

169.254.x.x (bad ip adress)

192.168.x.x (good ip address) and there are others as well

2. kindly check your default gateway

here's how to do that:

start > run > cmd > type "ipconfig" look for the default gateway

it would be like this for ex: 192.168.1.1

3. if you find both of the adress dont match with the first two sets then turn off all the wireless devices that is using the wireless router namely: computer, printer, UNPLUG THE WIRELESS ROUTER FROM THE POWER SOURCE, modem (FOR DSL Connections)

- let them rest for 2mins then restart the devices accordingly: wireless router, printer, computer and etc...

4. try running the HP Network diagnostic utility once again.

Re: My computer does not recognize my printer on the network

No, the printer is connected to the computer "Ethernet" wired and the laptop computer is 'wireless' and connected to the router. Here is a copy of my ipconfig:

Re: My computer does not recognize my printer on the network

I recently moved my laptop & printer & now the laptop does not acknowledge that the printer is still attached.

BTW it is supposed to be a wireless printer.
