Re: Officejet 4500 printer does not work

Hi Allan_G

I understand you aren't able to install the printer.

If you are using a usb cable then disconnect it.
Go to the tiles screen, (start up screen)
start typing %temp%, open the folder starting
with 7z, (Example: 7zS2356) util, ccc,
uninstall_L3. When the uninstall has completed
restart the computer.

Double click the downloaded file, it
will extract all the software to the temp
folder. When the installation splash screen
comes up, close it.

Go to the tiles screen, (start up screen)
start typing %temp%, open the folder starting
with 7z, (Example: 7zS2356) then double click
on the Setup to run the installation.

If you need more assistance just let me know.

Re: Officejet 4500 printer does not work

Hi

Thanks for the reply,

in the temp folder %temp% i have 67 folders all starting with 7S

I have found a couple of instances where the L 3 file you mention and the unistall activity appears to have taken place but this requires a restart in all cases .

So what do i have to do  - go through each one of the 67 folders and uninstall the software.

This is very painfull

Regards

Re: Officejet 4500 printer does not work

Hi Allan_G

I would delete all the temp folders first. Run the extractor again. Then go into the temp folder and then run the uninstall_L3 from there.

Let me know how you make out.

Re: Officejet 4500 printer does not work

Hi Allan_G

When you ran the uninstall did you have the USB disconnected?

You don't want the cable connected when uninstalling.

Make sure the printer isn't in a error state and can print a test page.
Press and hold the x button and press the ok button.

Let me know if it printed the test page.

Next time try another usb port or another usb cable.

Re: Officejet 4500 printer does not work

Hi

1. No the USB was NOT connected.

2. Ran HP printer doctor and produced a test Print - wind8.1 says the device is not connected.  Loaded WORd and achived a print out.

3. It seems like not all the functions work

4I tried all the USB ports without success

5. Restarted several times without sucees

6. Saying HP solution centre isnt working either

7 I cannot get the scanner working.  LOaded the HP print doctor which just keep taking me around in circles when i select fix scanner problems

8. the only cable i have is the one that came with the printer 18 months ago

Re: Officejet 4500 printer does not work

Hi Allan_G

Sorry that you are still having issues getting the printer installed.

I would try the Level 3 uninstall again.

Then disable any startup programs in case something is interfering with the install. Also make sure your antivirus software is turned off temporarily.

Here is a url to temporarily disable all the start up programs to see if one of them is causing any issues.
http://theunlockr.com/2012/04/05/how-to-change-windows-8s-startup-programs/

Try running the setup again.

Test the printer.

You will have to go back in and enable all and turn the antivirus software back on again.

I have included a post from pcwizard that you can take a look at with the same error.
