Print job won't delete

I have a print job in the que that will not delete.  I have tried to stop the print spooler so I can delete and then go back to restart the spooler.  When I get to the print spooler "stop" is not an option.  How do I delete this job so I can resume printing?

Re: Print job won't delete

dwatkins,

Welcome to the HP Forum.

It does require Administrative access to stop / start Services.

Administrative access is determined by Account type.

How to determine your user account type in Windows 7

The direct approach:

  1. Open a Windows Explorer (called File Explorer in Windows 8.x)
  2. Navigate to folder: C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS  **
  3. Delete any files you find in the PRINTERS folder

** When you try to click into the PRINTERS folder, you will get a warning about permission, Click through and / or enter the Administrator level password to gain access to the folder

One method to restart the spooler:

Control Panel > icon view > Administrative Tools > Services >

Click on "Name" to sort by this column >

Scroll down and look for Print spooler > Highlight Print Spooler >

Click Restart the service

Re: Print job won't delete

Thank you for responding: When I try to delete the files it says " The action can't be completed because the file is open in print spooler"  Not sure where to go from here?

Re: Print job won't delete

The first thing to try is to completely shut down everything and reboot it:

  1. Close all your programs, at least anything you can, and shut down the computer.
  2. Shut off the printer
  3. Switch off the router for a few seconds.

Stand around for a few more seconds...

  1. Switch on the router - wait for it to completely boot.
  2. Boot your computer - wait for it to completely boot and log in.
  3. Switch on the printer - see what it does.. the job may print, or you may even get a chance to cancel it at the printer panel.

At the least, you may now be able to get control of the queue in some manner.
