Printer assistant for Officejet Pro 8600(N911a)

On opening the printer destop icon I have 4 options. HP Printer Assistant, Set Preference, See What's Printing and Customize your printer.  HP Printer Assistant will not open.  How do I get it to open so I may have access to the tools. I am running this as a wireless printer under Windows 7(64 bit)

Re: Printer assistant for Officejet Pro 8600(N911a)

Hi,

Please perform the steps mentioned below.

1.    Go to “C:\Program Files\HP\<Printer Model>\Bin\UDC_Files” folder
2.    Look for “localize_1033.json” file and rename it to “localize_1033.json.old”
3.    Look for “tasks.json” file and rename it to “tasks.json.old”
4.    Go to Driver CD or Install Location (whichever is the latest)
5.    Look for Full_x86.cab or Full_x64.cab (OS Dependent – {64bit OS select Full_x64} {32bit OS select Full_x86 })
6.    Open the CAB File
7.    Look for “UDC_Files_localize_1033” and “UDC_Files_tasks”
8.    Extract the file to “C:\Program Files\HP\<Printer Model>\Bin\UDC_Files”
9.    Rename the “UDC_Files_localize_1033” to “localize_1033.json”
10.    Rename the “UDC_Files_tasks” to “tasks.json”
11.    Go to “C:\ProgramData\HP\<Printer Model>”
12.    Look for “HPUDC” folder and rename it to “HPUDC_1”
13.    Close all Windows
14.    Make sure the printer is Online (Make sure you are able to Open the EWS Page or able to Print and Scan)
15.    Open HP Printer Assistant and check

Re step 1. There is no UDC_Files folder in the Bin folder nor do I find it in my system! The only folder in the Bin folder is Utils.

Hi,

Is full feature software installed or just basic driver ?

Re: Printer assistant for Officejet Pro 8600(N911a)

Don't know if the full feature software installed or not. When I inserted the CD I followed the instructions. Note that the tools features do and work on the printers screen but not on the computer.

Re: Printer assistant for Officejet Pro 8600(N911a)

I uninstalled the software, downloaded the complete package version 28.8 instead of using the CD that came with the printer, Version 24.4. Everything now appears to be working fine. Kudos to DevRao for the help given.

Re: Printer assistant for Officejet Pro 8600(N911a)

Downloading the full installation package and doing a clean install did not help. I did find another solution to the problem which worked perfectly for me. Even though the solution was for a Windows 8 computer, it worked for my Windows Vista machine.
