I got a new PC with Windows 7 Home Basic installed. I cannot install HP LaserJet 1010 from CD or from Windows 7.
The printer is not even recognised as a printer, but as a unspecified device.
Any idea how to get past this.

There are no drivers available for download for Windows 7 for the Laserjet 1010. A Google search turns up some cases folks have reported success using the Laserjet 1015 drivers in Windows 7, available through Windows Update. To apply this do the following: find the port (perhaps USB001: or DOT4: ), then go to the Devices and Printers folder, Add a Printer, select the proper port, then when the list of printers comes up click on Windows Update. It will take a few minutes for the list to repopulate, after that you should find the HP Laserjet 1015 available under manufacturer HP (not Hewlett-Packard).

There are links for Windows 7 drivers but they lead to incorrect instructions about how to download Vista drivers az\s there are NO Win7 drivers for the 1010.
