m1217nfw wireless setup

I have a HP LaserJet Pro M1217nfw Multifunction Printer that was working fine until my computer crashed and needed a new hard drive. After getting a new hard drive, the installation of the HP software never worked. I have tried the Full Solution, the Basic Driver, ran the Print and Scan Doctor, ran a USB Smart Install, but everything seems get stuck on the same screen.

I have a Lenovo G560 running Windows 7 Home Premium.

The router is a AT&T 2WIRE router.

We also have a iMac, another Windows 7 (works perfectly), and a Windows XP that all can print.

I'm trying to set up wireless printing.

All of these get stuck at a screen that says the following: The printer installation failed. Please try the following steps after you click Close.

1. Ensure the USB cable is disconnected from the printer.

2. Turn the printer off, then on.

3. Rerun the CD install software.

Strangely enough, I am still able to see the printer on our network. Accessing from the printers internal IP address, I am able to print files such as Network Tests. The scan doctor was also able to detect the wireless network. However, normal setup seems to be impossible.

Could anyone help me? :smileyvery-happy:

Thanks in advance.

Re: m1217nfw wireless setup

Hi ychen428,

Make sure that the printer has the lastest firmware installed from the link below.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=bi-95165-4&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&...=

Follow the steps below to uninstall and reinstall the printer.

1. Open Control Panel

2. Click on Uninstall a program

3. Uninstall the Laserjet 1217 from the list

4. Reboot your computer

5. Download and install the latest version of Adobe flash player

http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html

6. Download the full feature software and drivers, and then reinstall the printer.

Let me know how it goes?

[ Edited ]

I tried what you said, but it's been the same as before: exact same error message.

I also ran Everything and deleted every single trace of HP from the system, including  Appdata and temp files, rebooted, and tried again: same thing.

Re: m1217nfw wireless setup

Hi ychen428,

Since the printer is working on the other computers and not this one that indicates there is a possible issue with your operating system contributing to the installation failure. Have you considered backing up your data, and then do a full system recovery on this computer?

Re: m1217nfw wireless setup

Yes, I have done a System Restore on my computer.

The operating system is relatively new, but I still did a clean install of Windows 7.

Same problem still.

Re: m1217nfw wireless setup

Hi ychen428,

Sounds like a issue with a componet in this computer. If this was the printer hardware issue you would have the same issue on the other computer which you don't. There are a couple options to try below.

1. Connect the laptop using a Ethernet cable to see if the same thing happens?

2. Check for any updates from Lenovo

3. Contact Lenovo support

Let me know what you find out?

Re: m1217nfw wireless setup

Well, to be more exact, Lenovo should have no problems with it.

My hard drive had crashed, so I had to restore using a system image. It worked fine, but a couple of drivers started acting odd. Like my OneKey Theatre driver (Lenovo) refused to start up properly. Lenovo had no solution to this.

Before the crash, the HP driver was working fine. However, the system image was prior to my HP installation, so for some reason, when I reinstalled the driver, it wouldn't work.

I'm trying to find an ethernet cable right now LOL. Once I find one in my house, I'll update you.

Thanks!

Re: m1217nfw wireless setup

Hi ychen428,

Can you access the EWS when you have the Ethernet cable plugged into the laptop?

Are the other computers still working correctly with the printer (prin/scan/copy)?

Re: m1217nfw wireless setup

It's a wireless connection I wanted, but I tried to do a wired network install with ethernet.

Same issue persists.
