user intervention required

My HP Deskjet 1000J110a printer just stopped printing and flashed "user Intervention required."  What's up with that and how do I correct it?  It's a pretty new printer.

This may seem like an odd solution, but try opening and closing the access door for the ink cartridges when the message appears on the console. Does that make the print request work?
