6500 E709n Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit install issues

I am trying to install a 6500 E709n Wireless all in one on my win 7 ultimate 64 bit machine.  The Driver page has been updated to show a Windows 7 64 bit driver, but the download is a wireless utility that checks your system and then tells you to put in your driver disk.   The install program loads and then prompts you that the program is incompatible with the OS.   I have researched through  the HP WIN7 site and they are showing the driver as available via download and in Win 7 .... (i think thats what it said about the latter).  What I really want is the complete setup like I have on my 32 bit vista machine. with the HP Solution Center.   Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Re: 6500 E709n Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit install issues

The driver page has not been updated to show a Win7 driver. The exe file you downloaded was merely a utility. Likewise, the Win 7 page only lists that your printer will eventually have drivers available from HP, not that they currently are. According to info posted elsewhere in this forum, HP will not be making a Win 7 driver available for download until late November.

Re: 6500 E709n Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit install issues

Mr Headrick,

Thanks for your alerting us to the new full featured driver package for the 6500.  I have downloaded the 64 Bit Win 7 version and successfully installed to two machines, 1. A Lenovo x61 w/4gb memory  that has Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit and 2.a HP p6140f w/8gb mem  Desktop that has Win 7 Home premium upgrade.   I noticed something funny today when trying to print a picture on the 6500 earlier today from the Lenovo machine.  I repeatedly got the error "Wndows Photo Viewer encountered a problem printing your picture. Try Reinstalling your Printer and then try again."  Of course I have not tried re-installing yet.   I have not printed a simple document yet or actually scanned with the new program yet but I am sure that I will this week.   However this little quirk with printing a photo lef t me wondering.  thanks for any input going forward.

Sincerely

Chuck Barnes

Re: 6500 E709n Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit install issues

I'm glad that the drivers and software are now available--however, it would be helpful if the software would recognize my computer.  I purchased both a new computer (an HP Touchsmart 600-1050 with Win7 Professional upgrade) and my printer (Officejet 6500 E709a), and they wouldn't "dance" to start with, due to the software issues.  Now that the software is available on-line, I've downloaded and installed all the pieces--but the HP Solution Center won't recognize and connect the printer.  I am running it as a network printer.  It will indeed print (apparently with the Win7 generic driver).  During the first part of installation it is identified as a network printer, but it won't complete the connection, and advises that I can "continue installation of the software, then add a device later".  Needless to say, adding the device later was not successful.  Running the Network Diagnostics utility met with the same result.  Turning the printer off and then on again made no difference.  Of note, the software and network connection seem to work fine with my laptop XP machine.

Suggestions?
