Reformatted my hard drive and installed Vista(86). Installed my 2610, but wouldn't function except as printer. Uninstalled and reinstalled to correct the problem but installer claims I have a newer version of the software already and doesn't proceed. No amount of install/uninstall/registry cleaning seems to help. The Photosmart 2610 has been used on this same equipment with XP, Vista and 7. I have never had a problem like this.
I don't understand why HP's uninstaller does'nt uninstall. It obviously has left something somewhere that the installer is reading, I just don't know where. I was stunned at the number of files and registry entries HP left behind. I haven't seen anything like it since I uninstalled Norton 10 years ago.
Does anyone know why this installer thinks the software is already there?

Hello,
follows is a link to the Hp.com Site that has additional software patches that need to be installed to get your software working. If you already have the main software installed, simply insall this/these over that (or follow the instructions presented on the screen).
This 1st link is crital as it will help fix the connectivity between printer/PC:
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software10/COL27251/
This link will help with scanned images.
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software10/COL25628/
This is the main link to the hp.com Vista drivers
Hope it helps

Thanks, but for any of this to work I must first have the driver/app software installed. IT WILL NOT INSTALL!
It says I already have it. I DO NOT!
I have installed this printer on 2 PCs, 2 laptops and 3 operating systems. No problems. All of a sudden, problems.
IT WON'T GO IN! Therefore I cannot run any auxillary apps, they have nothing to work on. The diagnostics were useless. Something left behind is telling the installer that I have HP software already installed. I DO NOT! I CAN'T!
Not to be rude, but I would think the title alone would indicate that I have the correct drivers for this printer. IT JUST WON'T INSTALL!
What does the program look at that tells it this? What is the name and how do I remove it so that I can proceed? Please don't paste info from the site, I have dug through everything available and it does not pertain. I need an expert to tell me where and what this offending file/key is and how to ditch it.
If I sound frustrated, I have tried for three months to make this thing work. I have installed, uninstalled and cleaned until I'm blue. HP left something, and the installer is finding it. This has to stop!

Seriously, doesn't anyone at HP know what the installer checks to determine if it is a new install or not? I can't use the machine without the software and it will NOT let me install it.
Please help. 3 months of effort has gotten me nowhere. Nothing on this site has helped so far. I have faith in HP's hardware, but I am having real doubts about the software.
