Re: BSOD - OfficeJet Pro 8500 Wireless A909g causing PC crashes and BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH

Mr. Griffith - That was my error - I probably hit the Solved button by mistake.  The I deleted my note re solved, but not in time.  Apologies, and thanks again for your advice earlier.  At the moment, I'm waiting for some follow-up info from Mr. Kumar.

By the way, any thought on my intermittent modem response?

Re: BSOD - OfficeJet Pro 8500 Wireless A909g causing PC crashes and BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH

Hi Glnz,

Sorry for the delayed reply. I was awaiting for the firmware update test results. From our testing firmware update seem to work with no hassles. Therefore firmware update is worth a try. I would not say Westell router has an issue but the communication from PC to printer and vice versa through router could potentially result incompatibilities between devices. One issue that was recently came to light where there was incompatibility between HP 8500 printer and 2wire router. It has now been fixed with firmware update.

There were couple of other recommendations for the BSOD issue:

1> As a part of troubleshooting and elimination process, try connecting the PC directly to the printer by passing the router.

2> Assign static IP address to the PC.''

Please let me know your thoughts and comments on what I mentioned above

Thanks

Re: BSOD - OfficeJet Pro 8500 Wireless A909g causing PC crashes and BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH

Mr. Kumar.  Thanks for your attention.  If you go to my other post regarding the firmware update, you will see that a few folks have had difficulty installing the update, so I shall continue to hold off on that.  We're very busy at the moment, flashing a permanent firmware update is always risky, and we cannot afford a problem with the printer right now.

Also, hard-wiring the printer to the PC defeats the purpose of buying a wireless unit in the first place.  And we do move it occasionally, so wireless is very important.  And dynamic IP addressing has not been a problem so far.  If we had a problem with the dynamic IP addressing or the connection through my Westell 7500 modem-router, I think we would see problems far more frequently.

The good news is that Mr. Griffith's suggestions seem to have helped.  My wife has been using the printer extensively the past two weeks and has not yet complained of a BSOD problem, although I warn her to save everything before printing from Adobe and we have stayed at Adobe 7.

But I am surprised that the HP tech folks are neither addressing the problem directly nor asking for my mini-dump or msinfo32.nfo files.  Don't they want to see these?

Re: BSOD - OfficeJet Pro 8500 Wireless A909g causing PC crashes and BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH

glnz,

I was on your other thread reguarding the firmware update and saw your BSOD problem.  On your original post, item 5, it says you did not uninstall the software for your old Officejet d135.  This may be the problem.  From experience, I had alot of problems with HP products because of remnants of old products that I do not use messing up the installation in one way or the other.  You may want to try to do this:

1. Do a backup (esp. your registry)

2. uninstall the Officejet d135 using the procedure here:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01822858&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=64986

or you can use this free program, Revo Uninstaller:

http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html, (WARNING: use this program only if you know your way around the registry!) - Back up your registry if you want a deep system scan of your registry and plan on doing more than a basic uninstall.  You can also use this to uninstall the other programs that came with the Officejet d135.

3. Uninstall the Officejet 8500 Wireless using their "Scrubber" program from here under the Utility section called "HP Officejet Software and Driver Removal Utility".

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-67093-2&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&...

Remember, to completely remove the SW, please run the uninstall.bat file 3 times as per the directions (please click "View directions" under the "Download Only")

4. Once you have totally removed all HP software/drivers, do a clean install of the latest Officejet 8500 Wireless driver/software.

It seems that HP drivers are very sensitive to legacy drivers/software.  I had the BSOD when I upgraded from a Photosmart 1215 to 3310.  Disappeared when I erased all traces of 1215 driver/software.  I had insallation problems when I upgraded from the 3310 to the Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless. Again, uninstalling all traces of the 3310 solved my problem.  I hope this helps!!

BTW, KenAlker figured out there were 2 versions of the firmware update (and I was using the wrong one!).  I may install the firmware update on the A909g when I have some free time but it is not a priority since I'm not having any problems with my AIO setup (and hopefully, you won't either!).

The 3rd link I placed takes you to the download page directly.  You don't have to go to Utilities and look for "HP Officejet Software and Driver Removal Utility".  Sorry for any confusion.

Dear z:  Thanks.  I'll keep your links in mind, but for at least six weeks I've had no BSOD's, so maybe the other tips helped.
