Can not Set up HP8500A Network folders

I have a new HP8500A A910n printer.  Here's what I did:

1. Opened the Embedded Web Server in IE9.

2. Clicked on the Scan tab.

3. Clicked on Network Folder Setup.

4. I got a dialog stating I was going to be redirected to a Secure Page. I accepted that.

5. I then clicked on Continue.

I then got a blank page with a Certificate Error.

What do I do now?

Re: Can not Set up HP8500A Network folders

HI,

First try this:

In the EWS, under Networking tab

select - Other services and switch to " Do Not Redirect to HTTPS" Choose aply and reopen the EWS and try again.

If it does not work  go into the menu of your aio and find the option to search for a firmware update, and let it run if you find one.

Re: Can not Set up HP8500A Network folders

I was able to set up a network folder, but still get the Certificate Error. Here's what I did:

1. On the Network tab there is no "Other services".

2. on the menu of my printer I was unable to find an option to search for a firmware update. I download the firmware from the HP site and update the firmware from my computer.

I get the Certificate Error on both my TouchSmart 600 and my laptop.

My previous printer was an Officejet L7780 and when I used my browser to connect to it I did not get a Certificate Error.

Re: Can not Set up HP8500A Network folders

Hi sorry for the mix up, i checked it and on this unit the settings in the ews are found directly on the network tab. Left lower side under Advanced settings you should see HTTPS redirection. From there you can make sure its turned of. If off allready turn it on to see what happens.

Re: Can not Set up HP8500A Network folders

Sorry, Picardje, no joy. I'm having the same issue with my HP Officejet Pro 8500A Plus / Win Vista Home Premium 32-bit. With HTTPS Redirect set to "OFF", I can access standard info pages on the EWS, but with it set "ON", I am now completely locked out of the EWS.

This is a very poorly implemented feature.

Re: Can not Set up HP8500A Network folders

Turning off HTTPS Redirection may not work, because certain settings (such as the one for setting up network folders) mandate https encrypted access for protection of user's data.

Normally user should be able to accept the browser warning message and continue to access the webpages in https. If you are unable to proceed, you can try going into the browser's advanced settings/options to remove the printer's SSL certificate that was previously installed, close the browser and reopen the browser with Embedded Web Server to try again.

Re: Can not Set up HP8500A Network folders

I'm unable to connect to the HP8500A over HTTPS using any modern browser.

Safari renders a broken page with between 1-20 (random) errors.

Firefox prompts to accept the certificate, but then still fails to render the page.  The suggestion to clear certificates does not help.

Google Chrome behaves similar to Firefox.

I'm only able to configure using IE7 on Windows, which is unfortunate because my main computer is a Mac.  So it is impossible to configure this printer's network settings from a Mac.  Way to go HP!

Hi davispw, may I know which Mac OS version and which Safari browser version are you using?

Re: Can not Set up HP8500A Network folders

I'm using the latest of each, which at this moment is OS-X 10.7.3 and Safari 5.1.5. Also tested with latest Firefox (11) and Chrome (who knows-silent updates).

Re: Can not Set up HP8500A Network folders

FWIW, on all of these browsers, it appears that it is able to load the HTML page (once the self-signed certificate is accepted), but then randomly fails to download one or more of the ~20 other scripts and other resources with SSL errors. When the JavaScript fails to download, it doesn't render anything on the page. I say "randomly" because the number of download errors varies each time I "refresh" from 1 to 20. Once in a blue moon it will successfully download everything and render the page, but then it fails again as I click through the webapp. In case timing is an issue, note I am connecting to the printer over 802.11N wifi.
