Can not remove deleted print job from queue

If I cancel a print job (as in "oops I didn't mean that!") I can not remove it from the print queue.  It gets stuck at "deleting" which means I can not print anything else behind it.

Turning off printer doesn't help.  Basically I have to reboot.  Grrr.

How to fix?

try using print diagnostic utility, you can download it from the hp website or you could restart the spooler. go to start-run-type services.msc-look for print spooler-then restart . try this see if it works.

yes, try to download the Print Diagnostic Utility from hp.com and run it. it can clear print jobs easily. or else, follow these instructions:

1: open the Printers folder.
2: open a command prompt by typing 'cmd' in Start Search in the start menu and then pressing 'enter' key.
3: in the command prompt window, type 'net stop spooler'. you should get a message saying 'the print spooler service was stopped successfully'.
4: once you get this message, "refresh" the Printers page. now all printer icons should disappear. but dont worry.
5: in the command prompt window, type 'net start spooler'. you should get a message saying 'the print spooler service was started successfully'.
6: once you get this message, "refresh" the Printers page. now all printer icons should re-appear and the document should have gone away.

if it doesnt go away, then try to delete it once again and repeat steps 3-6 till it goes away. this has worked for me almost all the time.

or else, you can try right clicking on the printer icon and select 'Run As Administrator'(if it is available), and then click on Cancel All Documents. this works sometimes also(Vista only).

I had a similar issue and the other respondents to this post are right, the Print Diagnostic Utility is a great tool!

I have uninstalled and reinstalled my HP 2710 xi software.  Nothing I can do causes the HP Diagnostic Printing Utility to recognize my printer.  I am running Vista Premium 32 Bit. I have uninstalled HP Diagnostic Printing Utility and reinstalled it also.  What good is the utility if it doesn't even recognize my printer?  Help?

Is your 2710xi connected to your computer via USB?  The Utility only works on USB connected products.

My 2710xi is on a wireless network.    This explains why the utility was not finding my installed printer drivers. Thank you very much.

I sent and deleted a print job 1/25/13 and the queue still reflects "deleting".  I am unable to print anything else.  How do I remove the deleted print job from queue
