Can't scan from Deskjet 3070A

HP Deskjet 3070A Windows 7 64-bit latest drivers installed
I can print with no problem but not scan
Printer says "Computer not found" - although it finds it OK for printing
Connection is via Ethernet
Help documents seem to require that I 'Enable Manage scan to computer'
They do not say how to do that
Can anyone help please or have I bought a white elephant?

Hi,
Follow the steps below in order to enable Scan to Computer:
Make sure to click your operating system name and connection method in order to display the steps to enable the feature.

Thanks for your reply - but sadly it was what I had already found and made no headway with. As stated in the question, I use an ethernet connection - working from home my wife and I each have a computer and we use two printers - a b&w laser and a deskjet colour - all wired via a hub.
The Windows 7 option in the link you give states: For network connections, you must enable the Manage Scan to Computer connection from the HP software. Unfortunately it does not say how to do that and that is my problem. Other solutions are for wireless or USB connections so don't help with an ethernet system

Follow the steps for Wireless connection,
The steps intended for any network connection, either Ethernet or Wireless.

Still a problem, I'm sorry to say - although I appreciate your trying to help,
WIndows 7 - wireless connection has several solutions:
- Manage scan to computer. Can't do that - it is when the printer screen says 'computer not found' even though it prints fine
- Install the HP software. It is installed fine and all opens up ok from the start / all programmes route
- Check your network connection. Well I can do most of what it says but of course I am on ethernet and not wireless so when I print out an HP network configuration page it has no IP
- Set printer as default. OK this is not preferred as I would expect my B&W laser to be the default, but OK I went through all the procedures there but still ended up when trying to Manage Scan to Computer with the computer screen saying Scan to computer is disabled, your computer is not listed on the printer's control panel
Further options seem either to refer to after the computer has gone to sleep - but I have turned everything on and off several times working through all these stages - or take me to the HP wireless printing centre - not anything for ethernet
Any further ideas please?

I really am having a problem with this. Please is there as expert on line today who can help? I am sure it is just a case of knowing what to do but I don't and can't work out anything from any of the advice or links given in this chain so far.

Hi francismole,
Follow the instructions below to check if scan is activated.
1. Double click on the icon labeled Deskjet 3070 on your desktop
2. Click on "Manage Scan to Computer" under Scanner Actions
3. Make sure that the scanner is activated.

Thanks but as explained previously this doesn't work as when I click o Manage scan to computer it doesn't work as the scanner does not recognise the computer - even though the printer does!
Good news for anyone else reading this is that I have found the solution. Running the HP diagnositc indicates a problem with the Windows Imaging Service and putting this into the Microsoft forum produced the answer.
At start enter services.msc and right click on WIA (Windows Imaging Acquisition) selecting first properties and then the dependencies tab. It should list:
Remote Procedure Call RPC and Shell Harward Detection
Under RPC it will then list DCOM Service Process Launcher and RPC Endpoint Mapper
Go back to the main services.msc list and then right click and start all the items listed as dependencies or sub dependencies under WIA
In my case it was Shell Harward Detection that had not started previously
Hope this helps others

In my case, none of the aboved & francismole solution doesnt help.. I still cant scan...
