Re: Critical Update to Correct a PC to Printer Communication Issue

I had hoped that this Update would correct the connection problems I have been having on my 6380 All-In-One.  After installing the Update I received a message implying that the update doesn't apply to the printer drivers that I have.  My printer is connected a PC running XP via wired Ethernet (the problem I am having is the printer goes offline and will then not print).  I guess this Update is for the USB drivers????

Re: Critical Update to Correct a PC to Printer Communication Issue

I just had an ongoing problem with the loss of printer drivers for my C6180 All-in-one.  There seemed to be an issue with my HP printer, and HP digital camera, the R817. One worked, but not both at the same time on my HP PavilionElite m9000t computer, running Windows Vista Home Premium. After a lot of grief and a few calls to HP tech staff, they sent me to a download that may be this same one mentioned here. address is: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=oj-54112-1&cc=us&1c=en&d1c=en&...

All I can say at this point is, that it seems to be working for me now.  My printer is a network printer that includes both a desktop and a laptop computer. Good luck.

Re: Critical Update to Correct a PC to Printer Communication Issue

Here is the original message again, since I am new to this forum and not sure how to get from there to here:

In Vista, HP C4450 3in1 printer appears to install, will then copy, will scan, and will print FROM A COPY, but WILL NOT print from Notepad or any other application installed on the Vista OS which is on a Dell harddrive. Both Printer and computer are new within the month. Before you come up with a solution (which we would really appreciate), please know that we first installed a NEW Epson 3-in-1 which ALSO would copy, would scan, but would not print directly from an application. We have spent about 8 hours talking to the HP support staff with no results.

NEW MESSAGE:

I want to add that four professional HP support people have tried to get our USB-connected HP C4450 to print from the PRINT command from a simple ascii text application (I.e. Notepad) or any other. Two of the reps have taken control of the computer for several hours. They have removed and reinstalled the printer software at least four times, have removed and built a new USB port, have gotten the latest drivers and updates from the internet, not sure what all they have done but they are not able to win the battle. When it seems the printer should print (because it WILL print, although only from a scanned text or image file or from the COPY command), they try but the printer doesn't make a sound, not even like it is trying to do anything. Just not hearing the command. The support reps are great to keep trying, but I am worn out.

I have used the RESTORE disk and reformatted the VISTA yesterday, said all my data would be lost, and in fact, it seemed to be wiped pretty clean. After a computer reinstall paying close attention to the instructions, NADA.

That makes me think that perhaps there is a file in VISTA that is corrupted and will not HEAR the print command while the corresponding VISTA files that are to HEAR the scan command and copy command are in their correct place and are working, not corrupted. Is that a possibility? Is it possible that some firmware file or files are corrupted somewhere?

If that it IS a possibility that there is a corrupt file in VISTA, then I need to take the new VISTA back to the store and replace it since I don't want to have to buy a new operating system disk. If it is NOT a possibility, then I need to return the HP C4450 and buy a different printer. Hope this makes sense, I don't know which direction to turn, since I have replaced both the computer and the printer within the past month and they still don't work.

Dell will not talk to us about third party software except on a pay by the  minute call with no guarantees. I haven't been able to get to Microsoft yet.

Any ideas very welcome.  I hate to beg but am reduced to it. I I tell you I am someone's grandmother, would that help?

Thank you for reading this.

Re: Critical Update to Correct a PC to Printer Communication Issue

Thanks for the info about the critical update to correct the printer communcation issue. The new driver does not fix the  problem.

I can scan a document and then print  that document from the computer scanning software. The C4450 3-in-1 printer will copy when using the Copy command. The problem is that the printer will not print by using the hardware Print button or by using the software "Print" command. The new driver does not fix the problem.

Wherein is the fault? Could it be the spooler? Should I try to return the Dell Studio Vista computer or the Hewlett Packard C4450, and why?

Re: Critical Update to Correct a PC to Printer Communication Issue

Hi,

Just thought I would let you know that this did work for my C-4480.

I've had it for a couple months and the power button would not turn it off and when if ran out of paper, it did nothing, and nothing worked except pulling the power cord.

Now for the first time the window lit up with the out of paper message and showed the ok message to hit the button and continue.

I can also turn it off using the power button.

So it does work.

Thanks,

Vittles

Re: Critical Update to Correct a PC to Printer Communication Issue

Would like to know how to restore communication between MS Vista op with my Photosmart c3180 through the digital imaging monitor utility which now says 'Photosmart copy (1) is not connected'.  This utility also shows how much ink is left in the cartridges.

Sometimes this utility works---sometimes it doesn't.  It is totally annoying. Why do I have two same-named printers?  HP did send an updated installation disc in 2007 I believe.

Re: Critical Update to Correct a PC to Printer Communication Issue

Is this useable in the C7280 All in One ??

I Have intermittent connection issues between the PC and the All in One (via Ethernet)

If not then I will raise this as a separate thread.

Cheers
