I did as previously suggested -- annihilate everything HP from my PC by uninstalling plus running my printer's cleanup tool as the uninstall is apparently fauly, rebooted my PC, reinstalled my printer's software, ran HP Update again, and hoped that spending two and a half work hours just to resolve HP's oversights would actually be fruitful today...

 

...and this update actually installed successfully. Yay.
