Re: Critical Update to Correct a PC to Printer Communication Issue

This critical update didn't apply to my driver, but the following workaround on HP Support did fix the incomplete printing I was experiencing on my Photosmart C6380. My printer is connected to the network wirelessly.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01672454&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&rule=22909&...

Workaround two: Disable bidirectional support

Follow these steps to disable bidirectional support.

  1. On the Windows taskbar, click the Windows icon ( ), type control printers in the Start Search box, and then press Enter . The Printers window opens.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • Right-click the printer's icon, and then click Properties .
    • Click Run as administrator and then click Properties .
  3. Click the Ports tab.
  4. Clear the Enable bidirectional support check box.

NOTE:

If you disable bidirectional support, the product no longer sends error messages to the computer.

Apparently, by disabling bidirectional support, communication is not lost between the printer and the computer.

Re: Critical Update to Correct a PC to Printer Communication Issue

I downloaded this stupid update with high hopes of it fixing my ongoing Dell All in One 926 issues.  It didn't help, and it froze up my computer.  How do I uninstall it?  Please help--took me all morning to back everything up in Safe Mode.

Re: Critical Update to Correct a PC to Printer Communication Issue

I started having these issues back in June, thinking it was me, I have installed, uninstalled, etc removed other programs, backed up essentials, etc.  I do not have restore points. When I got my computer, they were there, all date viable then are not now. I have the HP Scanjet 4070 photosmart and also the Photosmart express C4280 all in one.   I can print off the printer no problem. Can do a copy/print.  Can't do a scan nothing from either one.  I have talked with many who are having the same problem. I thought I would check out this site today.

There has to be a way for someone to have to deal with this. I believe it was an update.   My son swears by the Explorer 8 update cause it took out alot of things on computers he is working on for family and friends.  This is not his occ. put knows computers.

I will wait for solutions, frustrated.  I wonder if anyone bought one at a store NEW recently that is is doing it too?

Re: Critical Update to Correct a PC to Printer Communication Issue

Hi all,

I have just had a software update to my printer a photosmart 2575 (2 years old), as only just registered it after 2 years. The update was to improve network communication, and having installed it have noticed a slowdown in my Skype communications and web modem communications which is via an Orange phone internet stick. Has anyone else suffered this as a problem, and if so how did you resolve the issue?

Look forward to your reply,

HNL

Re: Critical Update to Correct a PC to Printer Communication Issue

installed for my just aquired C7280 (great that HP have fixed their installation and update softwares since the C6180)

I was hoping it would fix the annoying 'printer offline' messages - even tho it is on line and happily prints - but it doesnt

I was hoping it would fix the annoying 'duplexer not fitted' message when printing double sided, but it doesnt

disappointed - hope that HP have a fix in the pipeline as surely they cant allow such buggy software to continue?

They actually HAVE released updates to fix those issues. If you could post which OS you're using, then I'll post the links you'll need.

Re: Critical Update to Correct a PC to Printer Communication Issue

HP Emp. Is there any possibility that you may consider forwarding that informaiton on to me also? I have a L7680/AIC; home prem/64bit/sp1/ddr3/i970 arcitect that will not under any circumstances retain shared folders with adobe/corel/office outlook/pps. or any third party applicaiton that has the command capacity to print from it. Delete any software, update any software, or look at it sideways, and it have a shared folder with the printer communication, and it will no longer fax, receive fax, or receive or attempt to communicate on any frequency. thanks J

Re: Critical Update to Correct a PC to Printer Communication Issue

Jiminator, can you please rephrase the question? It was not quite clear what exact issue you are facing.

Re: Critical Update to Correct a PC to Printer Communication Issue

Thanks but that update is not compatible with the AMD i970 IIX4 dual quad core processor architectureal design. Service Pack 1 for 64 bit renders a lot of system folders unaccessible to even the system admininstrator. I fail to understand and frankly believe that Microsoft would be allowed to block access to folders labled .exe or.dll. It effectively hides them and you can see where they occupy the disc space, but you do not have access.
