Deskjet 4580 only part completes document

1. Fault symptom description

On selecting 'print,' paper is fed into printer but will stop either prior to commencing print or part way through. This failure was accompanied by message 'Ink levels not available' despite ink levels known to be good.

Initial fault symptom tended to be intermittent which appeared to clear upon printer power Off and power On cycle but the  reported fault is now permanent.

2. Equipment

Printer type HP Deskjet F4580 All – in –One Series. Used satisfactorily with genuine HP ink cartridges since October 2010 for scanning and printing via USB connection.

Computer operating system is Windows Vista – 32 bit.

3. Diagnostic checks conducted

Current driver loaded was at Version 14 Rel.6. This was uninstalled and re-installed successfully.

By following HP Support Centre guidance notes can confirm results :-                                                                                                    Bi directional support between computer and printer verified as enabled.                                                                                                 Digital imaging monitor processes hpqtra 08 exe. and hpqste 08 exe. verified as running.                                                      HPZPML driver verified as started.

By viewing print queue have verified spooling & print process start but this clears soon afterwards but before the anticipated print run completes. (Unsure if this is normal behaviour.) 

Questions

Ref. the printer:-

Do I need to adjust a setting?

Is there a problem with the latest driver?

Do I have a hardware fault?

Can anyone please shed any light on this problem and offer further checks or a solution.                                                                           Thanks in anticipation.

Have you tried to clean the area around the ink nozzles?

Grateful thanks for your response ref nozzle cleaning which I have conducted without any improvement observed. The clarity of the print is still good when the machine prints. Thanks.

So the problem persists. Any further ideas please?
