Driver Issue with HP LaserJet 1022

I'm running Windows 7 x64 with all patches.  I had to do a complete reinstall after a crash.  Prior to the crash, the 1022 worked fine, afterwards it's a no go (everything else works fine such as two external drives, mouse, keyboard, monitor, etc.). 

In the 'Control Panel', the 'HP LaserJet 1022' is listed but under "Unspecified".  I downloaded the most recent driver file (lj1020-HB-pnp-win64-en) but when I run it, the program hangs on "Waiting for user to connect the device".  The printer is connected to the computer via USB.  When attached, I hear the connection and the icon appears in the control panel so Windows 7 IS seeing the printer but the driver software isn't.

Has anyone else encountered this problem and, if so, how did you resolve it (other than buying another printer)?  In advance, thank you for your assistance!

Resolved.  HP has two device drivers for this printer - one (2MB) for first time installations (the one I used) and another for updating an already installed driver (4MB).  The first time installation didn't work so I tried the second driver.  I think HP has the two mixed up.

Where did you find the correct driver? I'm having the same problem since a new reimaging was done and the only driver I am finding on the HP website is the problematic one!

I found it very interesting that you repsonded to this today, the same day I was having the same issue!

When you're choosing to download the driver for this printer, you'll notice the driver is 2MB for English. However, I thought outside the box a little bit, and changed the language to Finnish... That allowed me access to the 4.7MB file the previous user mentioned.

You won't know what the driver installation is saying, but it does work, and all printer config menus are in english for me now.

The coincidence goes on - I'm about 99% Finn! So, I just tried it. Went to the HP driver site. Entered the model, chose Finnish and the only one available is the same one - 4.64M version. Is that what you used or did you find the smaller file that is the one that works?

I just did it in had to do the same thing. Switched it to French, found the 4.0M driver download and it worked perfectly.

I downloaded the Finn one at 4.7M or 4.64M or whatever it is and got it to work. Glad its working for others out there.

I used the Finnish version as mentioned, not the English. It worked just fine.
