I need to get my Officejet Pro L7680 to run on an old Pentium II Win98 computer, however, HP does not have a driver for Win 98. Any suggestions on what driver might work?
Thanks!
Richson

Hi Richson.
You can install alternate driver in your windows 98 operating system.
Install a printer driver for an HP Deskjet 990C printer:
==================================================
==================================================
1.Go to Start--->control panel--->Printer and faxes.
2.Double-click the Add Printer icon. Click Next.
3.If a message asks Local or Network, choose Local, then click Next.
4.In the Manufacturers list, choose HP.
5.In the Printer list, choose the HP Deskjet 990C printer, then click Next.
6.Choose LPT1 as the port, then click Next.
7.The printer name should be listed as HP Deskjet 990C Printer.
8.Click No on Do you want your Windows based programs to use this printer as your default printer? Then click Next.
9.Click No when it asks, Would you like to print a test page (recommended). Then click Finish.
==================================================
Configure the alternate printer driver
=========================================
==================================================
1.In the Printers Window, right-click the icon for HP Deskjet 990C printer.
2.Click Properties.
3.Click the Details or Ports tab .
4.Click the down-arrow where it reads, Print to the Following Port, and select USB port that the all-in-one software created. The all-in-ones model number should appear as part of the port destination.
5.Leave the HP Deskjet 990C printer identified as using the following driver, and click Apply.
6.Close the Printer Properties window.
==================================================
Right click on 990c icon and select "Use printer online" option.
Right click on 990c icon and select and "Set as default printer" option.
Regards,
Lesy.

Lesy,
Your suggestion sounded great to me, except when I got to number 4:
4.Click the down-arrow where it reads, Print to the Following Port, and select USB port that the all-in-one software created. The all-in-ones model number should appear as part of the port destination.
Can you explain to me how you get the software for the printer (OfficeJet L7680) to install under Windows 98? The L7680 package did not come with 98 drivers, and when I try to run it under 98, nothing happens because the installation package doesn't seem to want to run. And without the printer setting up the USB port, the 990c software will not find a USB port on my system. Running the 990c just gets the drivers loaded but, since the 990c HP Assistant fails with an "out of memory" error (on a system with 2gb of ram), I must be missing something?
I will trying running the L7680 installation CD again, but so far, I haven't been able to get the install package to run under 98se.
Be really interested in hearing your explanation.
TJ
