Driver for P1000 printer

I have a new laptop that is running Windows 7 and I am trying to access a P1000 printer that is connected to a Windows XP desktop over a wireless network. I added it as a new printer and when I try to print to it I don't get any errors but it also does not print anything. I used to be able to print without any problems from my older laptop which was also running Windows XP.

I have seen the instructions for updating the Windows 7 device driver using Windows Update and the alternate 970C drivers but I do not want to connect the printer directly to the laptop. How can I update the device driver for the printer while accessing it via the wireless network?

Re: Driver for P1000 printer

Try the following: on the Windows 7 machine  go to the Devices and Printers folder, Add a Printer, Local Printer, Create a Port, Local Port, \\Computername\Printername (use the actual share name for the computer and printer), OK, then click on Windows Update and then select HP Deskjet 970cse.
