Driver issues

I purchased a HP C309n-s printer.  The hardware prints great.  Drivers and some of hardware have serious issues, some of which could be security problems.  First, I used to be a demo day rep that represented HP.  The biggest complaints that customers had with HP was the fact that too many useless programs run in the background eating up system resources and HP still does this, why?  In programming the KISS method is suppose to be used.  HP makes excellent hardware it's the software end that needs real help.

Problems with the printer software:

  1. HP Update Program lags way too much, update programs on PC games run faster.
  2. Adding a social networking program to drivers has to be about the dumbest thing HP could have done, social networking programs have always been prone to security issues.
  3. Canon's drivers work better, because the drivers are only ran when you use the printer type device.  Security problem that eats system resources.
  4. Adding about seven additional programs to run in the background, security issue here.
  5. Using the Microsoft help file, when HP could have opted to use PDF file would have been better.

Basically, if HP kept the drivers just with drivers:  A lot less system resources being used and better security.

Re: Driver issues

That's why in the installer I always unselect everything I don't want. All the extra apps are extremely slow. Reminds me of Norton product before 2009, driving computers to a standstill.

Re: Driver issues

I agree totally. I'm never buying another HP product, their drivers are simply shocking. I do like HP printer hardware it's very well made, but the software is simply too much to bear.

I have an PSC1400 all-in-one and I've watched as the drivers have grown from an already too big 46mb in XP, to 156mb in Vista, to a totally ridiculous 350mb in Windows 7!

All I ever want is a 256Kb .INF file so that windows can access the printer and the scanner. I don't want "HP Photosmart", I don't need OCR software, I don't need HP's help to find somewhere to buy ink and I DEFINITELY want absolutely nothing to do with "Solution Center" and "Smart Web Printing"

I mean who in their right mind wants 350mb worth of applications and clutter on their system just to be able to print?!?!?!

I understand that there are users out ther who might benefit from this stuff, and sure, make it available for them if you must, but what about users who simply want a printer driver? Where's the "Expert driver" that just has the printer .INF files and NOTHING ELSE???

So angry right now.

Re: Driver issues

Even if you only install the minimum software, you still run into the problem.

Basically, HP needs to rethink software and simplify, adding a program to ask if their product is working ok or not should be done via forums and/or emails and/or tech. support and/or use something like twitter.
