HP Color LaserJet CM1312nfi MFP: scans are all legal-size even though the originals are A4 How do I

HP Color LaserJet CM1312nfi MFP: scans are all legal-size even though the originals are A4

My problem:

- I've got a big stack of A4 documents and when scanning these using the HP Solution Center along with the Auto Document Feeder (ADF) they all come out legal size.

- I'm using a newly bought HP Color LaserJet CM1312nfi MFP (Series PCL 6) which is connected to my computer with a USB cable.

- I want to scan A4 documents to A4 searchable PDF files.

How I've tried to solve this:

- I have adjusted all possible settings to A4.

- I've manually cropped the scans using the "crop" tab but that is way too time consuming.  And, I can't imagine that this is how it was intended.

- I have searched "Help", which tells me to click on the "Resize Output" tab but this tab doesn't appear as long as I use the ADF.  This tab only appears when I use the integrated flatbed scanner, which I'm obviously not going to use for 10-page documents, etc.

- I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software.

- I've downloaded the latest firmware.

- I've tried getting around the HP solution center by scanning directly from Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional.

- I've tried scanning by pressing the scan button on the printer panel.

Now I've gone to HP website and downloaded a firmware fix but there was an error downloading it but it eerased all of my drivers and software so it could install new software. I tried to use my disk to reinstall everything but it acts like it doesn't reconize my All in One

What now?

RobRupp@insightbb.com

All of the above hasn't solved my problem.

Hello,

Thanks for the post.  With this one, I would probably go ahead and uninstall everything and the reinstall.  I've included an link below that will assist with this process.  I suspect we now have a corrupted driver and that's why its not seeing the printer.

Thanks for the help, you are the only person that has replied so far.

I should have mentioned that my computer is an XP (Service Pack 3) and these links are for a Mac.

Any additional links would be appreciated.

Hey Rob,

No worries.  Sorry I couldn't get to you sooner.  Let me walk this one back, and get the proper documents for you.  (I usually work with MACs only, habit - sorry)

Good Luck!

Thank you!

This will help.I'm a little hesitate to install the Toolbox fx again. It seemed to slowdown my computer. Iam currently just scanning and faxing and it is working faster than ever. My problem is I have to change it from a JPEG file to a PDF everytime I scan a contract and sometimes I forget and have to rescan all over again. I've tried setting a new destination but it doesn't take the changes and says that Toolbox has to be running for it to save the changes. I just don't know if running toolbox  and slowing down my computer is worth it.

Gotcha, I understand.  Not required, just recommended.  I'm not sure where you are scanning from but below is another little link for scan settings.  Maybe save yourself a little time..........Good Luck!!

Re: HP Color LaserJet CM1312nfi MFP: scans are all legal-size even though the originals are A4 How d

For some reason now I have only two choices on how to print in my print dialogue box when I click printing preferences and there isn't anywhere to choose print in Black & White.

Everything now prints in color. Isn't there a download that will give me all the different chioces on settings for printer and how I want to print.

Hi Rob,

You should at minimum have the ability to print in grayscale with the current, but in doing some poking around there is a UPD available that should give you the option to print black only.  I've inlcuded the link below.  Actually there are two that would provide that option, PCL5 and PCL6 Universal Drivers.

Re: HP Color LaserJet CM1312nfi MFP: scans are all legal-size even though the originals are A4 How d

Thanks again.

What is the difference in PCL5 and PCL6 and how do I know which one to use?

Where can I find the grayscale or Black and white options. I've never had this problem before.

Re: HP Color LaserJet CM1312nfi MFP: scans are all legal-size even though the originals are A4 How d

Hello,

Below is a quick although correct description (Thanks Tek-Tips Forums) of the differences in the two drivers.

"PCL6 is NOT a superset of PCL5, and is NOT similar in any way. While PCL5 is interpreted as the data arrives at the printer, PCL6 is first "compiled" by the printer driver before being sent to the printer."

It really depends on what you are printing predominately.  If you are printing text and some mixed graphics, I would suggest the PCL5 driver, it may also be a little quicker.

I've included a great link below with some excellent information regarding the different applications of drivers and when to use what driver.  Good Luck!
