Now that I have vented, is there ANY simple solution to make my non functional HP 3600DN printer work with Windows 7 (64 bit) - or am I just forced to retire a 16 month old printer and purchase another brand that supports their hardware? Thanks,

I am in the same boat. Just installed Win 7 (x64) and very suprised to find out no drivers for my 3600n.
I must say, I am not happy...and hope this is only an interim problem.
Can someone from HP confirm one way or another if Win 7 drivers will be available for the CLJ 3600?

I agree...it's totally rediculous to not support this printer in Windows 7. It's an expensive piece of hardware that lots of people have invested in and will want to continue using in Windows 7.
HOWEVER, I did find a workaround that may be successful for others as well.
-Go to HP's website and download the drivers for your 3600 and tell it you're using Vista 64-bit. This will give you a folder that unpacks a bunch of files.
-Add your 3600 and tell it you "Have Disk" at the driver stage and point it to the .inf file that gets extracted.
-It should setup without any errors.
So far I've been able to print from IE and Word just as I was able to before, so I'm hoping this will be my solution.
Good luck.

Seems several of threads are going on reference this issue. Just talt to HP (they called since I had submitted a comment to the CEO), and the bottom line for now is that now Windows 7 dirvers are planned. Bottom line - I told them this was no way to treat customers, especially when pleanty of other vendors exist who do support their products. Who knows - maybe some day SOON we may see something.
In the meantime - I did get the Vista 64 bit dirvers to work - however this does not work for everyone. Even with this solution though, you do not have a fully function printer since you cannot print "grayscale" - it will print white text on a black background - great way to use toner.
Check the following thread for more info:

I posted in that thread as well....it seems the Vista 64 dirvers do work but as telee mentioned, the grayscale function does not (it seems to print the reverse...what's white is black and what's black is white), kinda like a negative. Not only does this waste toner, but it's not a useable print.
Most of my work is done in colour anyway....and any black print is normally condusive to printing text, so the grayscale problem has not really affected me much.
Having said that, I am sure one day when I need to print in grayscale I am going to probably start punching the wall because I won't be able to reproduce a proper print.
I really do hope HP creates Win 7 drivers for the 3600 CLJ. Having worked for HP I can tell you that it usually has nothing to do with not being able to "do it" from a programming perspective....the decision to not support a product when a new OS comes out is normally from a product lineup perspective wherein HP wants you to spend money to buy a newer printer....one in a similar price range that would probably end up costing you more from a cost per page perspective....which equals $$$ on toner sales.
HP makes money on ink and toner...and many times printers are sold at cost and sometimes even at a loss.

I don't want to nitpick, but just to be sure: what do you mean? No drivers are planned? Drivers are planned now?

I should run a spell check and grammar check. Sorry about that typo.
"I just talked to HP, and for now NO drivers are planned for Windows 7" - needless to say, I did express my opinion of this. I also stated that HP should have the customer courtesy to at least respond to these forums and state:
- No we are not doing anything -- sorry about that
or
- We are concerned about your problems and looking into seeing what can be done
or
- Yes we have drivers planned and hopefully this is something you will see in the near future.
However, at this point, HP states NOTHING is planned. They do state the are talking to MS to see what they can do on the driver front - take that with a grain of salt. I purchased my printer from HP and expect them to support it, not a 3rd party. They can deal with the 3rd party in development - that is not my concern. HP needs to look after their customers..... period.
Thanks,
