HP Deskjet D1600 won't clean print heads

I have an HP Deskjet D1600 at work that I cannot get to work properly. When printing with black it had horizontal bands. The ink was low so I replaced it. That didn't help. I reset the printer. That didn't help. I tried to run the cartridge cleaning function but it didn't print a page. It made some noise for a minute like it was trying to clean them and then the window popped up and asked if it was fixed or if I needed to do an intermediate clean but no paper ever printed. I clicked on done and printed another page but it looked even worse than before so I decided maybe the intermediate cleaning would help. I did that and again no page printed. Now nothing is printing at all.

I also printed a test page and got errors instead of color bands. I got error code C0840001 on 4 of the lines and error code B8043AB2 on 1 line. I cannot seem to find info on these errors.

Re: HP Deskjet D1600 won't clean print heads

Simply turn printer off. Open door. With a flashlite, look inside to the right side where you'll see a small tray that slides forward and backwards. This is the cartridge cleaner. Push the tray forward (away from you) until it stops then move it backwards until the little black tab on the right is 1/2 inch from the metal part of the carriage. Close the door. Turn printer on. All done. Print something

Re: HP Deskjet D1600 won't clean print heads

Thanks for the help! I can now print and the cartridge cleaning function is working. The horizontal lines are worse now than before the cleaning but you fixed the problem I asked about. Thanks again.
