How to Fix the Printer HPLJ1000 to work under VISTA OS
or replace drivers
I got this from a tech support guy I know. It worked great for me, maybe it can work for someone else. Good luck!

Subject: vista fix
Link to drivers. See if Vista detects the right drivers. Then apply fix
- Method for getting HP Laserjet 1000 to work under VISTA OS
1) Download and extract the latest HP Laserjet 1000 XP drivers (dated 2005)
( automatically extracted to c:lj1000hb )
2) Then go to... Start /Control Panel /printers .... then Add a Printer
3) A new window comes up ...Next select.... Add a local Printer
4) then check "Use an existing port" and on the right there is an option to choose a port.
choose "USB001 (Virtual printer port for USB)"
5) on next window choose HP laserjet 1000 (if in list) or choose disk if not and browse to the files (only browse if the HP lj 1000 is NOT in the list.)
and follow the rest it really works.
Or this
1) Right click and unzip the exe file you've just downloaded
2) go to Printers (Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Printers)
3) Right click anywhere in the window and select Add a printer. The popup window should now appear
4) Click Add a local printer
5) Click Next
6) Click Have Disk
7) Browse to the location of unzipped folder you (See step 1)
8) My printer was with USB so I choose zUSB.inf (not sure about serial, u might have to choose HPLJ1000 for serial)
9) Click Open and then OK
Computer will install the printer named HP LaserJet 1000, but it won’t work
**MY ADD IN:** Skip directions below. Follow instructions under it.
This part didn't work for me, but the next set did.
Now connect your printer to the computer...
Vista will look for the printer driver and install the printer which will work
You should now delete the printer named "hp LaserJet 1000" and make "hp LaserJet 1000 (Copy)" the default printer. You might wanna rename it too.
**MY ADD IN:**
- Unplug Printer
- Both plugs (power and communication wire) from the back of the printer
- Turn off computer – Let it sleep for about 5 min.
- Turn on computer – Waite until everything is settled down.
- Plug in both power and communication wire back into the printer
- It will now automatically look for a new driver and will install it.
- Go back to ADD PRINTER and set the default printer to HPLJ1000
Cross fingers…IT WORKED!!!
Hope it will work for you too.
When possible you may want to print this out for reference.

For the x64 version you would need the XP x64 driver. This was distributed as part of the XP x64 disc. If you have access to an XP x64 install disk you could use "Add Printer", "Have a disk" and point at the appropriate file.

Dear Mr. Bob Headrick,
I do not have access to XP x64 Disc. Will it be possible to provide me a link? It would be a great relief to all of us having a Vista x64 based PC/ Notebook, who happen to have a Laserjet 1000 printer as well.
Thanks a lot.
