I am using a Laserjet 1018, and recently upgraded to service pack 3 on XP. Following this, I uninstalled the software for the printer and reinstalled the complete software package downloaded from HP's website. Despite this, I cannot get the computer to give me messages when the printer is waiting for input, such as when the paper is out, or when I need to reload pages to continue on a manual double sided print job. Nothing pops up on my screen, and the printer light blinks red without a way for me to tell it to continue. I end up having to turn the printer off and on and starting over. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have got the same printer and on Win 7 no problems at all. I remember that on Vista I had to install 2 drivers.
First that plug and play and second that print driver package..

I also had no problem with Win 7, and I think with SP1 it worked fine with Vista as well. Did you uninstall the printer before installing these two packages?
