I have a new HP Pavillon dv7 laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium operating system. I was able to connect it to my HP Officejet 7410 All- in -One by downloading the Windows 7 compatible driverand software from the HP website. It worked fine for 5 months. Now, whenever I shut down my laptop and restart it, the HP Officejet 7410 fails to work. I have to uninstall and re-install the driver and software after each restart. How can I fix this problem? Please help. This uninstall/reinstall takes quite a bit of time.

How is the printer connected - USB, wired LAN or Wireless LAN? I suggest downloading and running the HP Home Network Diagnostic Utility and/or the HP Print Diagnostic Utility. These can help resolve connectivity issues.

Bob,
Thank you so much for responding. The printer is connected via wireless LAN. I ran the HP Print Diagnostic Utility and HP Scan Diagnostic Utitliy and they did not show any problems. The HP Network Diagnostic Utility shows some problem with the firewall. It said "network communication is not what was expected. A firewall might still be blocking communications." I am using McAfee Total Protection which shows to be compatible and suggested for Windows 7. I reviewed my firewall settings on Windows and McAfee, but I can't find the problem. I reset the McAfee firewall to the default settings. The Windows firewall is off and shows that it is being controlled by McAfee. What else should I check or do? Thanks again for helping.

Bob,
Good News. Something worked. The HP officejet is staying connected when I shut down and restart my laptop. Per the diagnostic scans and McAfee sites that you provided, I reviewed each element of the McAfee firewall and reset them to the recommended settings. So far this seems to be working. Thank you so much for your insightful help. Your suggestions have been so much better than the folks at HP. I will let you know if the probem returns.
