HP PSC 1315v All-in-one printer " Check Print Cartridge" blinking light and USB is not recognized ?

I just bought the print cartridges for my printer and as soon as I closed the door the regular actions began except they stopped to give me a blinking "CHECK PRINT CARTRIDGES." Now that I have been trying to fix the problem, I connected the USB to my laptop ( ACER Aspire 5517) to open up the HP HELP SCREEN and now my latop is not recognizing the USB. I need help I need my printer to work!!!
