HP Photosmart C5180 magenta color

My HP Photosmart C5180 does not print magenta.  On the Extended self test Diagnostic page 2 it prints as lavender.

Hello Zippyhoss,

Firstly we need to make sure that the ink level of all the cartriges should be atleast 1/4 .
If it is not , then please replace the cartrige whose ink level is less than 1/4.

Perform the below step ...
On the Front Panel of the Printer ..
Press SETUP > Tools > Clean Printhead.

There is no problem with the ink levels

Hello,

• Please remove all the cartridges from the printer.
• Power off the printer.
• Wait for 30 seconds and the power on the printer.
• When prompted, insert the cartridges.
• When the printer is ready, perform the below step which should resolve the issue .

On the Front Panel of the Printer ..
Press SETUP > Tools > Clean Printhead.

Thanks but it didn't work.  Still doesn't print magenta.  Is this a planned obsolescence thing?

I had the same issue: light and dark magenta were missing, and all advices within this forum did not help.

Finally I found this link http://www.gregorystrike.com/2011/08/24/hp-photosmart-c5180-ink-system-failure-fix/ where you can read how to inspect the printer's board. I saw a small battery CR2032 3V and repaced it with a new one. After that my printer printed as before - without any problem. A view at the extended Self Test Diagnostic Page (you'll get that by pressing HELP and OK at the same time while the printer is switched on) showed that Date/Time of the printer was reset to 1/1/2000 after replacing the battery.
