HP Photosmart D7160

I'm receiving an error message when turning the printer on, or attempting to print a document on a Photosmart D7160:

'The ink system has failed. Unable to print. Error code: 0xc18a0201. Turn the power off, then on again'.

Is this a hardware or software error - could someone please help me find a resolution to this?

Many thanks in advance!

Re: HP Photosmart D7160

There is a document on this available at hp.com doc # c00489814.

I have included the document, if these steps do not work, then it is probably a hardware issue.

  1. Without turning off the product, disconnect the USB cable from the rear of the product.
NOTE:The USB cable connects to the port on the rear of the product. The port is labeled with the USB icon ( ).
Remove the cartridges from the product.
  2. Wait for the 'Insert Cartridges ' message to display on the control panel.
  3. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the product.
  4. Wait 60 seconds.
  5. Reconnect the power cord. If the product does not automatically turn on, press the Power button ( ).
  6. Reinsert the cartridges, and then close any open doors on the product.
  7. If you receive a prompt to print a calibration page, do so.
  8. Reconnect the USB cable to the rear of the product.
  9. Try printing again.

Re: HP Photosmart D7160

If the steps above do not resolve the issue, I would recommend contacting HP.

Here is a link with information on how to contact HP:
