HP Photosmart D7160

I'm receiving an error message when turning the printer on, or attempting to print a document on a Photosmart D7160:
'The ink system has failed. Unable to print. Error code: 0xc18a0201. Turn the power off, then on again'.
Is this a hardware or software error - could someone please help me find a resolution to this?

There is a document on this available at hp.com doc # c00489814.
I have included the document, if these steps do not work, then it is probably a hardware issue.
- Without turning off the product, disconnect the USB cable from the rear of the product.
NOTE:The USB cable connects to the port on the rear of the product. The port is labeled with the USB icon (
).Remove the cartridges from the product. - Wait for the 'Insert Cartridges ' message to display on the control panel.
- Disconnect the power cord from the back of the product.
- Wait 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord. If the product does not automatically turn on, press the Power button (
). - Reinsert the cartridges, and then close any open doors on the product.
- If you receive a prompt to print a calibration page, do so.
- Reconnect the USB cable to the rear of the product.
- Try printing again.

hello i have a D7160 and im getting the error 0xc18a0201 need your help..what can i do?
