I deleted the short-cut, went into the software and found the software was seeing the scanner and I was able to scan a picture and save it to a file.
I'm all set! I think!

The HP scanning software is so bad I gave up on it and shelled out $50 for VueScan, an excellent and easy to use utility. It actually gives you options that are not available with the HP software (like scanning to a text PDF, rather than just an image PDF) and handles multiple pages quickly and easily. HP could do to learn a lesson from this software. Theirs is so often too resource hungry and buggy.

Hi there Seward.
What is you printe model name? Is it a photosmart or an officejet? You can check that in the front part of the prinnter.
Can you tell me how is your printer connected to the computer? Is it wireless or through usb?
Cause with the error message you're getting it is a problem with the connection with the printer to your computer.
