Re: HP and Windows 7

Ok, it's now 12:49pm MDT. I just finished a two hour download, and successful install (after two fatal errors, but nicely resolved through clear instructions).

For the first time in 3 years; after the HP 7310 and HP 7590, and my two previous 8500's, I have a beautiful looking HP Solution Center THAT ACTUALLY WORKS! Nice job aesthetically, at least my opinion. First scan from Solution Center (have completed 5 picture and document with different settings, etc. All perfect 10's.

OK, Now. Here it is . . . I apologize for adding cynicism to my sarcasm and disdain for HP's being so unprepared for Windows 7. I apologize for not believing my tech support person, or her "supervisor." These problems are certainly not their fault. One friend of mine suggested that I should feel pretty good, perhaps I saved her job. We wouldn't want tech support to be sitting around eating their nails and filing their chocolates, like the Maytag repair man, would we? I will be making whatever attempt necessary to get some roses to that young lady in far away, whereever it is.

9 hours of my time later, disrupted again by HP product errors of a variety of types, it appears My computer is working perfectly.

This printer may be a little noisy, but it prints beautifully and pictures look very nicely done. So like a battered wife, I remain in my unhealthy co-dependent life with HP. I'm sure this time, like before, another assurance that 'it won't happen again." Will I ever learn?

Re: HP and Windows 7

Dumped HP Officejet j6450 and bought a Brother MFC-255CW.  Works like a charm.  They have Win7x86 and Win7 64 drivers for most all their printers.  Somebody stayed up late over there...  Maybe one day, one year, I'll be able to use my almost new Officejet again....  Maybe I'll buy a bridge!

Oh great - one of your fancy products is now actually working. But mine isn't - that expensive 2840 Color Laser Jet network-All-in-One.

I have to wait.

In the meantime I'm supposed to use some 60ft-long USB-cables and whoever wants to scan or fax has to connect it's PC via USB to the printer first.

Again - "highly professional".

Don't you just wonder how other hardware-suppliers did it?

And trust me - I mean it: HP - Never Again!

Re: HP and Windows 7

Just in case it was me that had done something wrong, I totally uninstalled the HP software, re downloaded the appropriate driver version for my Photosmart D5460/Windows 7 and re-installed by the book.

Got no error messages, just an allegedly successful install message, but it still doesnt print :smileysad:

Can somebody please say if and when there will be a compatible driver? I still haven't had a return phone call from HP Support either which is a bit disappointing, as they said most sincerely that they would get back to me.

I dont really want to have to buy a new printer, I havent had this one that long, so I would appreciate some advice from HP as to what to do next

Re: HP and Windows 7

@PurestLight

Hey there - printing itself should not be a problem. Don't install any software at all. If you connect your printer via USB, just plug it in and Windows 7 should install the built-in drivers all by itself. Printing should then work.

If you connect your printer via network you have to go to settings, add printer and click "via network". Windows is then searching for the printer (make sure to turn it on) and installs drivers.

Works with my HP 2840. Problem for most people here is, that scan and fax via network is not possible without a full software solution.

Pure printing normally works via network and USB.

Hope this helps,

greetings!

Re: HP and Windows 7

Hi  Mike_DE

That was what I did originally - just plugged it in and expected it to work (after all, it worked like that with Win 7 BETA, but NOT with the RC) So because it didnt work, even though it said it was installed/there/printing I downloaded the new driver package.

Maybe I should un-install the driver package again and just plug it in and see what happens this time

Thanks for replying :smileyhappy:

Re: HP and Windows 7

OK, I uninstalled the driver package, printer not connected via USB. Rebooted, plugged printer in,said it installed device driver successfully but guess what. It still doesnt print.

This is ridiculous :smileysad:

Re: HP and Windows 7

Same problem here. I really tried everything, but nothing works. Send an e-mail to the HP helpcenter and hope that there will be soon compatible drivers. The current (newest) drivers doesnt work on my pc (32 bits, HP Deskjet F4172).

Re: HP and Windows 7

Hello,

Don't know if this will work for you or not. After spending much of the afternoon trying to install HP's new full feature package I still could not get it to print wireless or connected via USB. Then, I discovered that each time I would delete the printer and reinstall that Win 7 would load it's driver and not the one from the new software I downloaded. I tried just deleteing the Win 7 driver and installing the HP but it would not do it, nor would it update it. So, I then deleted the allprinters(The one with MS driver and the second one with HP driver that didn't work), didn't shut down and restart but ran the software again, which finally detected my printer correctly and only installed the HP drivers Plus set up the fax printer correctly also. I have a 4680AIO, but I think it could work for you. Give it a try and good luck! I'm still of the opion that this will be my last HP printer because of the way they handled the release of Win 7 Drivers.
