Help! HP Toolbox won't work under Vista

When I added a Vista PC to my network almost two years ago, I found that the HP Toolbox software--needed to monitor the status and toner level of my LaserJet 1320--would not install or run under Vista.  I contacted HP and was told "we're working on this and ought to have a new version available soon".  I would periodically check back and would always get a similar answer.  Now that I've replaced my last XP machine with a Vista machine, I am more in need of this utility than ever.  I emailed HP Tech Support and was told "Sorry, pal, but you're out of luck.  The 1320 is no longer a current model so we don't support it any longer."  (With such a strong committment to customer support, I'm surprised that they even bother to release drivers!)

 

Does anybody have a fix for this problem?

I've just upgraded to Vista also and I now don't have a HP Toolbox for the Photosmart 7960.

 

I either need a Vista compatible toolbox or another way to check my ink levels. Any ideas?

I have this same exact problem. Just replaced my PC with an HP with Vista and I can't check the ink levels on my HP 7960 printer.  I have been pulling my hair out over this for hours.  Please help!

Isn't there an HP moderator for this forum?  I am currently running my Laserjet 1320 and three Epson printers on my network.  I used to think that Epson had lousy customer support, but this thread--starting with my original post--convinces me that I have probably purchased my last HP device!

After reading some other forums, I have found that when printing a Test page via the printer menu options, the page displays the ink levels.

FANTASTIC!  I found that when I hold down the LaserJet 1320's green button for a relatively long time--perhaps 10 seconds--I get a 2-page report, the second page of which is a supplies status page!  (If I only hold down the button for a few seconds--perhaps 2 seconds?--I just get the useless marketing page that the printer likes to print out to show how great it is.)
