I recently bought a new system – win 7 – 64 bit - 6 GB ram. I had winxp.
Things went well until I tried to install HP series 2175 – all-in-one scanner/printed.
The scanner part works well but I get an error message EVERYTIME I try to print something.

You didn't tell us what the error is. Without that it's hard to know what to do. It could be that the IP address changed or something else entirely. We also don't know how you connect to the printer. Besides that, you can 'uninstal' the printer and then reinstal it, and that might fix the problem. The driver apparently comes from Microsoft - not HP.

How about some details?
1. How are you connecting the printer to the PC? USB? Or are they both connected - wired, wifi, etc. to a router or switch?
2. What steps in Windows 7 did you take to 'install' the printer? Did you use the Add printer dialog? Or if it is USB based, did it pop up a message when you plugged it into your PC that it was installing the driver? And if so, how that went? Again, if USB, did you use a USB2 cable vs an old USB1 cable? And are you using an external USB hub?
Please let us understand the components of your 'system'. IE - laptop or desktop, what ports, do you have an administrator account on the PC? We can try to help - IF we know enough about your setup.
