I have an Officejet 5610 all-in-one printer connected to my desktop XP computer. I'm trying to connect to the printer to use it from another XP desktop on my wireless network. I have it set up to share, but when I try to connect, it wants the .inf file for the driver. I can't seem to find it. Help!!

Hi ,
You should be able to find it on the software disk of the aio. ITs ussually called Autorun.inf. Choose that one and the driver you will find.

I have the same problem. There's no autorun.inf file on the HP CD for the 5610 AIO. Nor in the temp files in folder 7zS672D after extracting the driver downloads.

Hi,
It should be on there, however windows setting might be causing you to miss it. Windows can be set to not show known file extension. So look for autorun without the .inf behind it.

Thanks for answering. You were right, the file extensions weren't being shown. Turned extensions on from the control panel and now it's there. But there's a new problem. It gets me to a point where I can choose the printer as "hp instant share"... it's the only choice. So I selected it and click OK. Then it tells me the software doesn't pass the" Windows Logo" test. I click on "Continue Anyway". It starts copying and then asks for the hp CD. It then says it can't find a file... "hpzimc09.dll". It happens to be looking in a folder "e:\common\drivers\com_os". When I look in that holder there's a file "hpzimc12.dll" but not a "hpzimc09.dll". So what do I need to do now?

Hi,
Strange,
There is another way we could try it. You could try a normal installation on the secondary computer, so with the printer connected and software disc. When that complete set up the printer back at the original computer and on the secondary computer change the port to the ip adres of the shared printer/computer. This should work as well. However I just heard that this printer is what is called a host based printer and thus uses the computers processor to manage its print processes, so sharing might not work at all.

Hey thanks for trying, but I'm throwing in towel. Have already spent more time on this than I could have ever saved, given the work-arounds of replugging the USB cable or emailing to the other PC.
The inter-networking idea is a little problematical as there's a few things I haven't mentioned. The main computer a Toshiba, that I have working with the LynkSys print server (PSUS 4), is running Ubuntu 10.04 (Linux) and not Windows. It didn't have any trouble loading the driver for the hp 5610 AIO from it's internal library and doing a passthru to the print server IP address. The seconday computer, an HP Pavillion running Windows XP, is the one that won't load the driver properly for the HP 5610 printer when the print server is in-between. Given the Linux Windows mismatch I'm doubting I would ever get them to play together nicely with network sharing. Guess I'll go do something I know how to do like mow the grass or drink a beer.

HI,
That sounds problematic indeed, cross os'es and unsing a print server. Keep this in mind igf you ever buy a new printer and make sure it has network functionaltiy itself, that would make it more easy to use n all computers.
