LaserJet P1005 Windows 7

LJ P1005 won't operate with recently installed upgrade from Vista to Win 7 32-bit.

I downloaded and ran HP's driiver software, whose name is HP is: hp_LJ_P1005_P1505_Full_Solution_ROW.exe, but the software will not install. Here is a full description.

I have followed all the instructions at HP's page: Installing the HP Universal Print Driver (http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?&objectID=c01796859&lang=en&cc=us), including the very precise and rather complicated procedure of modifying msconfig's Startup list, and the LJ P1005's drivers for Win 7 still won't install.

Both with and without the msconfig modifications, the problem was: the driver installation got as far as the "HP LaserJet P1005 Setup Settings" window, but he little rotating circle (indicating that a process is ongoing) simply continues rotating forever - here is a screenshot (the screenshot software doesn not capture the rotating circle itself):HPPrinter2.jpg

So, apparently the program files cannot be copied.

Please tell me what other steps I should take, and please confirm the name of the correct driver software for the LaserJet P1005 for Windows 7 32-bit.

Please use plain text.

Re: LaserJet P1005 Windows 7

Hello beaujohn,

Just to clarify, the HP Universal Print Driver will not work with your P1005. But looks like you've downloaded the correct software/driver. :smileyhappy: To verify, you will find the correct full software/driver download here. Filename is as you mentioned hp_LJ_P1005_P1505_Full_Solution_ROW.exe.

Looks like the installation is stuck for some reason and you already disabled startup items as described in this FAQ. This is a great idea as some applications and services running in the background might block an installation.

Difficult to say what is still blocking your installation, this could be a security application (some cannot be disabled via msconfig), insufficient permissions, system cleaning applications, deleted files/registry keys etc. Before performing more troubleshooting, I would suggest trying the basic plug and play driver, it will install a driver only, should be ok as the P1005 is basically a printer. Please give it a try and download here (filename is ljP1000_P1500-HB-pnp-win32-en.exe).

In case this one is not installing as well... as you mentioned an upgrade to WIndows 7, could be this document will help (in case some old driver fragments from Vista left): Printer Will Not Print After Upgrading to Windows 7

Hope the information above will help.

Re: LaserJet P1005 Windows 7

Thanks AndOne ~

As you suggested, I read read Printer Will Not Print After Upgrading to Windows 7,which told me to uninstall the HPLJ P1005. I was unable to uninstall it as directed (its Uninstall.exe could not be found), so I uninstalled "HP LaserJet P1000 Series" using Revo Uninstaller.

  • Revo said the uninstall was successful, yet there remain some HP directories in C:\Program Files, here's an image of them:

HPProgramFilesListing.jpg

However, Step two: Remove the drivers and the driver package, said to use Print Management for the removal, but Windows 7 Home Premium Edition 32-bit does not include Print Management (I googled the subject and found numerous discussions about this fact, all of which seemed to conclude that Print Management is simply not available in Win 7)

So I would much appreciated it if you would send me instructions on manually removing the drivers and driver package, and from thence I can (hopefully!) go on to re-installing the software.

Re: LaserJet P1005 Windows 7

Also want to mention that in C:\Program Files\HP\Dfawep\Products\HP LaserJet P1005\ there is a file named HP_LaserJet_P1005.ini, if that is of any help.

Hello beaujohn,

Thank you for the feedback, very helpfull information. As the „C:\Program Files\HP LaserJet P1000 Series“ folder etc. will be created during installation process but after the point where your installation is stuck (screenshot in your first message), it really looks like there is an old (Vista) installation left. :smileyindifferent:

Let’s try to remove old driver files. Even if the printer mangement is not available, we can delete those driver files, please try the following:

0. If the P1005 is connected to your computer and powered on, turn it off and/or disconnect the USB cable. Restart the computer.

1. Open „Devices and Printers“.

2. Please check if under „Printers and Faxes“ the „HP LaserJet P1005“ is listed, if yes, left-click the entry and choose „Remove device“.

3. Now select any of the listed printers (there should be at least two entries from the operating system, does not matter which printer is selected) and click on the „Print server properties“ button (located on the top of the window):

Print server properties.PNG

4. In the „Print Server Properties“ choose „Drivers“. In case some old driver fragments left, you will see an entry called „HP LaserJet P1005“ below „Installed printer drivers“. Depending on your user account and permissions, you might see a button on the bottom called „Change Driver Settings“. If it is present, just click it.

5. Select the P1005 and click on „Remove“.

6. Choose „Remove drivers and driver package.“, click „OK“, click „Yes“, click „Delete“.

7. Would restart the computer now.

Now it’s time to install again.

Hope the information above will help.

Re: LaserJet P1005 Windows 7

Okey-doke AndOne, here's the latest:smileysurprised:
I followed your steps, but the installation hung again at the same place:smileymad:

A couple of notes, in case they're of any help:

(2) Checking under "Printers and Faxes“ the HP LaserJet P1005 was not listed.
(3) Listed printers: I selected Microsoft XPS Document Writer (it's the only entry from the OS)
(4) HP LaserJet 5P  was listed and I did the removal steps and a message said "Driver package deleted: Driver HP LaserJet 5P was removed; Package prnhpoo1.inf was removed."
Also, I tried after a cold boot, as well as after a re-start.

Please let me know what other steps I should take . . . I know we'll get this thing working one of these days!!:smileyhappy:

Re: LaserJet P1005 Windows 7

Under Programs and Features, there are still two HP listings:

 • HPCarePackCore  version 10.0.0.1

 • HPSSupply version 2.1.1.0000

Both were installed on 8-22-2011, which means that they got installed a week ago when I first tried the installation with hp_LJ_P1005_P1505_Full_Solution_ROW.exe

Should I delete them then try the installation again?

Re: LaserJet P1005 Windows 7

To be sure, I've just gone through the whole process again, carefully following all instructions including disabling of all startup items. When that didn't work I disabled AVG's anti-virus, and still the installation did not work.

Hello beaujohn,

Indeed, very useful notes, thank you!

You’ve disabled AVG temporally, excellent idea as it might block the install but looks like it does not. :smileyindifferent:

Ok, we have no old driver information for the P1005 on your computer, good news. You can try to uninstall the following programs (those are related to software installation, not needed for the basic driver installation):

- HPCarePackCore
- HPSSupply
- MrvUsgTracking

Could be some fragments of those caused the trouble. You can try to re-install again after removing the mentioned programs.

Well, in case the full software install still not working, have you tried  the basic plug and play driver (available here  - filename is ljP1000_P1500-HB-pnp-win32-en.exe)? This one will basically install the printer driver only. Just 3.27 MB to download.

Simply run the download, driver files will be prepared and you will see after one minute or two a popup asking to connect the unit. After connecting the unit and switching it on the driver will install, hopefully, crossing my fingers. :smileysurprised:

Hope the information above will help.

Re: LaserJet P1005 Windows 7

Alas, no luck, AndOne :smileysurprised:(

I uninstalled HPCarePackCore, HPSSupply, and MrvUsgTracking, but the P1005 installation hung at the same place.
I uniststalled Avast AVG Anti-virus, just to be sure it wasn't the problem (since in msconfig > Startup Avast cannot be disabled) but the printer installation again failed.
(For your info, here are all the programs that were running, as indicated in Task Manager)TaskMgrOnlyRunningApps.jpg

Downloaded and ran ljP1000_P1500-HB-pnp-win32-en.exe. The process hung at the point where it instructs the user to connect the USB cable . . nothing happened. I tried two different USB cables and three different USB ports on the computer, no luck.

I hope we're not running out of options!

NB In the taskbar there's "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media". I don't know what this is, but I thought I'd mention it on the chance that it might be giving a problem.
