I have a Windows Vista 32-bit system with Service Pack 2. The printer is connected via USB cable (no wireless network). I had to reinstall all my software due to a virus. When I tried to reinstall the printer driver software, I got the following message:
Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.
HP LaserJet P2015 Series PCL6
The extended attributes are inconsistent.
The printer hardware is recognized in the control panel and by Microsoft Word 7. The printer will successfully print a test page alone.
I tried using the original CD and downloading the PCL6 driver software from the HP site. Both provide the same message. Any help in getting the computer to talk to the printer would be much appreciated. Thank you. Ken

Solved! It was not a driver problem after all, but a settings problem. I changed the port in the Control Panel from LPT1 to USB and it worked fine.
If you have an "extended attributes" problem, make sure the port in your Printer Settings is the port you are plugged into. Cheers.
