Mac OS Lion 10.7.3 - Can't get my HP photosmart C4280 print!

HELP Please!  Just bought an IMAC running Lion OS 10.7.3.  HP website says to download drivers from Apple,

tried that and got "An error occurred while trying to add the selected printer. Unable to find an appropriate software

for your system after running software update!" So I called Apple and they said have to download driver from HP Site, did

that and when I went to print, printer didn't show in printer window, so I clicked add printer and then the window came up to downlard missing files and that is when I got the previous message.  Apple said they can't do anything that I needed to contact you!

I was on the phone with HP for over an hour yesterday and they couldn't help me either!  My husband's Epson

doesn't work either.  Seems to me that they would have drivers to work on the systems without having to

go out and be forced to buy a new printer when you have one that is still working perfectly! 

Lion has been out a long time!

I am not a happy camper!

Apple is incorrect. All the HP print drivers are included in Lion and can downloaded through the Apple Software Update.

Lets try this:

1. Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller and click Continue
2. Highlight your device on the left pane
3. Hold the Ctrl, Opt and Cmd keys and click on Uninstall
4. There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall ALL hp software. (At this point, if you continue, any HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
5. Click Continue and let it finish

Now, run a Software Update with the printer connected via USB. This can be done by clicking the Apple in the top left of the screen then clicking Software Updates.

Next, let's reset the printing system:

Go to System Preferences > Print & Scan
- Right (or control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
- Select the plus sign to re-add a printer. Select the Default tab on the top of the window. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.

Thanks for your help!  I resorted to being on the phone with HP for over 2 hours last night and they still couldn't fix it!

So I called Apple again and was on the phone with them for 1 1/2 hrs.  Come to find out when I migrated my old computer to the new one, it must have passed some files that corrupted the new computers printer files.

So I had to reformat the hard drive and reinstall Lion.  YEAH it now works and I am in the process of

moving my necessary files over. Being very careful not to bring any of the old files!

Hi There

I haven't been able to get my HP Photosmart C4780 to print since upgrading to Lion.

I went through the below process suggested by Sean but the same problem remains - that is, when I send an item to be printed, the printer takes a piece of paper through the feeder but doesn't print anything on it.  When I run a test page, the test page comes out fine, so there isn't an issue with the ink or the functionality of the printer.  It seems to be a problem with the computer and the printer talking to each other.

I too spent a great deal of time on the phone to Apple at first, then HP and they talked me through running a test page but in the end said I just needed to buy a new printer!  But that doesn't seem to make sense seeing as there is nothing wrong with the printer.  

Sean or anyone else, can you help??

The only thing I can suggest to you is to format your hard drive and do a reinstall of Lion!  It worked for me!

Thank you. Much easier than reinstalling Lion. I have been having frequent problems printing to my C7250 since I migrated to the new laptop. Hopefully, this will resolve those issues once and for all.
