My HP Photosmart C4180 give me the error message that there is a carriage jam. I have gone to all the HP sites I can find for information pertaining to this issue. I have tried to do all the suggestions, downloaded the diagnostic utility and nothing helps. Help please! I am at my wits end and cannot afford to purchase another printer! Thank you all!

I apologize that I don't have the answer for your particlar problem. I do believe you either need to pay money (approximately $80) to sign up for personal "online" help or get another brand of printer as I may need to do. I am disappointed with HP because my printer has shut down printing after I decided to purchase generic ink cartridges instead of spending the outrageous price for their genuine cartridges. First, I got a warning message, then the black ink quit printing and finally it won't print at all. I had a discussion with another person and "out-of-the-blue" asked if they had a HP printer. They said, "well..." and went on to tell me that it was not working right now. I found out that they also bought generic ink and their printer was shut down as well. She thought it was broken and we realized that this is an issued caused by HP service. It seems that if you click ok for them to access your products to make sure everything remains functioning properly and is kept up-to-date, this gives them access to also shut down your product if you use any product that is not approved by them. My printer is still less than a year old and I keep it covered, so the issue is not on my end because the other ink worked. The problem happened after I continued to use the other ink instead of purchasing HP ink and throwing out the bulk of generic ink that I had "just" purchased. If this issue is ever fixed, fine, but if not, I will warn everyone I know to make a purchase other than an HP product. My laptop is even HP and I am utterly disappointed that I spent over $1000 for their products just to get the kind of service that is available when we need assistance. This is not how they will keep customers loyal to their products.
