Every time I install the new win7 drivers and then reboot, the computer crashes and restarts on boot. After an automatic repair I'm told that a recent driver installation has caused a boot error and I have been reverted to a previous state. This of course removes the driver and HP software.
Anyone have any ideas?

4 hrs of chat with HP support and a new person every time I had to reboot (4 support techs in total), I was becoming very frustrated. It got to the point that we exhausted everything these guys could do with me. Next step was to grab my details and forward the chat content to a team within HP to sort. I could expect an email in 2-3 business days.
Anyway, I decided to press on and found a solution a fix .. yes I fixed the problem with L7500 series driver install on 64 bit windows 7.
The problem:
I was installing a L7590 officejet driver on my Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (64 bit) using the full driver package OJProL7X00_Full_13.exe). The printer is connected via ethernet network on my local lan (same ip subnet). The install process finds my printer and continues the installation process only to finish at the last moment with 100% but failed with a big Red X on the picture of the printer.
My Solution:
The solution is to install the software without the printer, reboot and then install the printer. Because you are probably here due to a failed installation, you will likely need to 'clean' all the HP files out of your PC and registry first.
I am not sure if all these steps are needed or whether this will work for XP, Vista or 32 bit Windows 7. But I would suggest you try it.
BIG NOTE: 'CMD run as administrator'. Everything that I say to run is not done by usual mouse double-click. Instead I ran everything from a command prompt that has been opened by 'run as administrator'. Even if you are logged in as an administrator, you still need to do choose 'run as administrator'. I learnt this 'trick' from another piece of software that would not install by any other method.
To open this command prompt window, click start menu and navigate to accessories via all programs. You will see the command prompt there. Right-Click it and choose 'Run as administrator'.
First Step: Clean out previous failed install.
You do this by running .bat files that have been put in your temp directory by the driver install. Open the command prompt (as administrator).
Type: cd %temp% and press enter
this will change your 'current' directory to something like:
C:\Users\rlorimer\AppData\Local\Temp>
Type: dir and press enter
You are looking for a <DIR> with a name starting with '7z'. If you have more than one listed, remember the name of the last one in the list. My one is '7zS4C52'. Yours will be different.
Type: cd %temp%\7zS4C52\OJProL7X00_Full_13\util\ccc
where '7zS4C52' is what you found in the previous step and 'OJProL7X00_Full_13' is the name of your full driver install file.
TIP: save a copy of this statement (your unique version) for later use in a text file as you can copy it later from there and right-click paste it into the command prompt window. You will use this 2 more times.
Type: Uninstall_L1.bat and press enter
The first stage of uninstall will occur and you will reboot at the end.
When your computer reboots, open a command prompt (run as admin) and navigate to the uninstall directory again:
Type: cd %temp%\7zS4C52\OJProL7X00_Full_13\util\ccc
Type: Uninstall_L2.bat and press enter
The second stage of uninstall will occur and you will reboot at the end.
When your computer reboots, open a command prompt (run as admin) and navigate to the uninstall directory again:
Type: cd %temp%\7zS4C52\OJProL7X00_Full_13\util\ccc
Type: Uninstall_L3.bat and press enter
The third stage of uninstall will occur and you will reboot at the end. You might be asked if you want to keep some web associated stuff ... choose no.
After the reboot, navigate to your temp directory in your file explorer. You can do this easily by clicking start -> run and typing in %temp% and press enter. If you don't have a run command, then open my computer and navigate to the directory you determined earlier eg
C:\Users\rlorimer\AppData\Local\Temp
Delete all folders and files in this Temp directory. There may be a couple of files that can't be deleted. This is ok. Reboot your computer.
You now have a 'clean' pc to do the install.
Make sure to place a copy of the driver install OJProL7X00_Full_13.exe in the root directory of one of your drives to make the next step easier. In my case, I put it at c:\OJProL7X00_Full_13.exe
Open a command prompt (as administrator) and navigate to where you saved your driver install OJProL7X00_Full_13.exe
Type: c: and press enter
Run the installer
Type: OJProL7X00_Full_13 and press enter
When you get to the install screen where it finds your printer, do NOT select it ie choose to carry on installing without the printer. The installation will complete successfully. Don't choose to put a 'Add Device' link on your desktop if it asks you .. this link caused me problems.
Now Reboot your computer
Run the installer again ..
Open a command prompt (as administrator) and navigate to where you saved your driver install OJProL7X00_Full_13.exe
Type: c: and press enter
Type: OJProL7X00_Full_13 and press enter
This time you will have different options. Choose to add a device. Let the installer find your printer and then select it to continue the installation.
Now working .. hopefully like mine
