OK - credit where it is due. Full drivers have been released and they work on my Win 7 Professional installation.

A couple of points, however.

  1. The VISTA install gave me a choice of what software to install. The Win 7 install does not - it just goes ahead and installs everything. It would me nice to be given the choice.
  2. I still cannot fax to my All in one which is connected to another PC (a Vista Business PC) on my network. I tried using both the MS Windows and Scanning Tool, and the HP fax printer. Maybe this just cannot be done, but it would be nice if I could (I can connect to this PC remotely through Windows and faxfrom a shared drive, but would like another way to do it).

Near the beginning of the install there is a page "Review Installation Options"  that has an obscure link  to chose "HP Software* to be installed, click here to customize".  This is the page that requires checking the "I have reviewed and accept..." box.    Clicking on this link opens a Custom Installation dialog that allows selecting or deselecting various options. The default is that everything is selected.  Once the install has been completed I do not see a way to get back to that dialog without uninstalling everything and trying again.

You can still go into Programs and Features and uninstall the HP programs you don't need. Make sure you don't remove Solution Center, Imaging Device Functions, OCR Software, and the printer driver itself. These are very important for the full functionality of the printer.

Re: Officejet 6300 Windows 7 Drivers

Could have been simpler, but I guess it will work. Too bad so many people will be stuck with software that they have no use for. On the other hand, they would not know what needs to be installed and what they can skip. Could have been designed better with some of the programs clearly being designated as optional.

I see one problem still remains from VISTA. Shortly after I installed the software, my scanner disappeared. I had to use the setup program to reinstall the device.

In VISTA, the way to prevent this was to disable the HP CUE DeviceDiscovery Service. Once I did this in VISTA, the problem went away. Guess we'll have to do the same thing here - too bad they can't find a fix for it.

Re: Officejet 6300 Windows 7 Drivers

A fix was released for that issue. 2 patches addressing communication and reliability issues with the printer and the PC were released for almost all AiO printers. Don't think they've been released for Win 7 yet.

Re: Officejet 6300 Windows 7 Drivers

Wel, looks like Win 7 needs the patch too. In the meantime, I'll stay with my cure.

Where can I get the patch for my Vista PC?

Re: Officejet 6300 Windows 7 Drivers

Just run the HP Update program, and it will download and install the necessary patch to your PC. It may take about 4-5 mins to actually find the update, so you'll just need to wait.

[ Edited ]

Ran it - it found and installed several patches.

Hopefully, we will see the same patch for Win 7 soon (don't know why the fix could not have been included in the original release).

Onje question - exactly what purpose does the HP CUE DeviceDiscovery Service have? What is it supposed to do, and what do I lose by leaving it disabled?

Re: Officejet 6300 Windows 7 Drivers

Let me put it this way: The CUE Device Discovery Service(DDSVC) along with the HP Network Devices Support Service(also named Network Device Discovery) and Digital Imaging Monitor(which appears as a tray icon) monitor device connectivity to the PC, and help the Solution Center program to maintain a connection with the printer. If disabled, it'll cause problems in scanning, device status report, or in some cases, the Solution Center not being able to find/recognize the device at all. Not to mention, scan options will not be populated in the printer. Disabling the service was a workaround to the issue of multiple printer icons and repeated installation windows appearing. Since the connectivity and reliability updates being made available, this is no longer required. You can change the Startup Type option of the service to Manual and probably notice your PC boot up faster. But it does not deprive you of any functionality.

Re: Officejet 6300 Windows 7 Drivers

Of course, this pertains to my Vista PC.

Until HP releases the patch for Win 7, I will have to go with the workaround.

On my Win 7 machine, I do most of my scanning through Adobe Acrobat, not the HP Solutions Center, so this might minimize the impact. However, I would like to have a patch in order to regain full functionality.

Re: Officejet 6300 Windows 7 Drivers

Have you checked to see if the Vista version out NOW is different, or whether the 7 version will work on Vista?
