Officejet 6310 - Fatal error when installing driver and accesories package from HP website [ Edited ]

I have recently had reason to uninstall and attempt to reinstall the driver and software package for my Officejet 6310 all in one printer/scanner.

I am able to download the software with no problem. 

However, during installation I get the following error:

Services Exe -  Application error

The instruction at "0x010ecfb35" referenced memory at "0x00000000".

The memory could not be "written".

Click ok to terminate the program.

Click cancel to debug the program

When I click "ok", the installation process just stops.

When I click "cancel"  I eventually get the following error:

c:\windows\system32\services.exe terminated with status code 1073741819

The computer then shuts down.

I have used this printer and scanner happily for some years, but due to this problem it does not work at all.

I use WindowsXP Professional

Any ideas?

were you ever able to figure this out?  I'm having the same problem installing the software for my c5180 all in one.  I think it's related to xp service pack 3 somehow, I installed a fresh version of xp sp3 on my pc then attempted to load this software and I get the same result as you.  HP phone support blaims conflicting software installed on my PC, yet this is a fresh install? yea..okay...

Can you confirm if you have sp3 or not at the time you attempted to install?

I've got the same error.  I agree.  I also think it has to do with SP3 for XP.  Any answers yet???
