I am posting here because I have already tried tech support and received basically no answer. I would like to know when I can expect full function software for my printer. I don't want to hear that I can use the driver in windows 7 because if I wanted a basic printer I would have bought one. Windows 7 has been out long enough for hp to get software ready to use with these printers. I checked on software for the basic version of this printer and hp's site states that it will be available in late november. This is BS, I can buy a computer from you guys with win 7 but I can't get a printer that will work. I have three computers networked to this printer that I plan on switching to win 7. I have already invested in the operating system but I can't do crap till I can get full function software from hp. So is there anyone that can tell me why there is no software yet and when there is when it will be available? If I have to wait till late november then I guess I'll need to switch to a printer from another manufacturer that actually supports their products.
Thanks,
Chris

This is a user to user support forum. The users here do not speak for HP. If you have already heard from HP that the drivers will be available in late November then I would suspect the best answer you can get here is that the driver will be available in about four weeks. I would suggest checking back frequently at HP's download site for any updates.

"end of November"?
That is quite interesting. Let me tell you what happened to me.
on WED - during a chat with a technician, I was told that for US $23 I can have the drivers MAILED to me via overniight. I said why can't download them, I was told that it was not yet posted on the website because they had not gotten to doing so. But it will be up within a week. So it was confirmed to me that the drivers for the 6500 All-in-One Wirelesss are READY and that the $23 covers overnight shipping.
on THURSDAY - during a chat with another technician, I was told that the drivers are not ready because Windows 7 is not yet a finished product. When I advised the technician that Win 7 has been out since October 22, he said than the drivers must be ready and will be posted soon.
on FRIDAY - during a chat with a 3rd technician, he apologiezed and said that the drivers will be ready when they are ready. I asked him if they could be mailed to me for a fee, he said yes.
So, WHICH IS IT? Now, I hear from you and of November? I scan alot of stuff using wireless option and for me, using these USB hacks and/or workarounds are not acceptable.
Why are the 8500 model Win 7 drivers out already for 5 days? The 6500 and the 8500 pretty much have the same wirless setup/solution?
With all due and respect, this is unacceptable. 6500 model is one of the newest OfficeJet's around and here I am looking at it but not using it.

Ah, so disappointed in HP representatives. Here is what happened to me...On Nov 1, Sunday, I decided to purchase the 6500 wireless because the demo model was stamped Windows 7 ready and the salesman kept repeating that the HP representatives at the store approved the printer to be Windows 7 ready.
After bringing it home and carefully putting it together, I was totally disappointed to see, when I inserted the CD, a window saying that this product is not supported by my operating system...Windows 7-32 bit. I felt ripped off and hornswaggled for buying this printer that did not give me what it was supposed to. When I phoned the store (Staples) Monday morning, the manager only repeated what the salesman told me that their HP representatives assured them that this printer (and others) were Windows 7 ready and are (at this present time) stamped as such. I repeatedly had to explain my situation to the manager, and finally said to him, to please take off the Windows 7 Ready labels on this product until he knows, in fact, that it is Win7 ready and he acquiesced...simply to get me off the phone??? I am appalled at the thought that this store does so blatantly misrepresent HP products as being Win7 ready when, in fact, they are not.
I wrote to HP CEO and explained what happened at the Staples store and when I installed the CD to find that this product is not supported by Win7 and asked him to look into the matter.
I declined the manager's offer to refund my money, because early Monday morning, I successfully installed the printer with a usb cable to my Vista-32 bit laptop.
Shame on you, HP!!!

What was the email address that you used to write the CEO of HP? I don't mind writing something myself.

I just purchased a system directly from HP that has 64 bit Win 7 installed on it and got the 6500 printer at their suggestions.
The printer came in few days but the system is not here after a week. So I figured that I would just get the printer wireless thing going and to my surprise found out that the printer gotten DIRECTLY from HP for wireless use with WIN 7 DOES NOT WORK with Win 7.
When I called support they just WASTED my time -- they wanted to connect directly to my desktop and "take control" of it. I said no so as I went to the support web site, the tech went there as well and we found that the drivers were not there. The tech told me that is was MY responsibility to know that wireless did not work with WIN 7.
Here are all of the things that HP did wrong
- Recommended and sold me a product that did NOT work with Win 7
- Documentation in the box for the printer made me waste my time since it would not work with the OS that I need
- Support just followed a script that did not address the issue
- NO CUSTOMER service like - "I will put your name on a queue and get back to you when the driver is out"
Disappointment is the only thing that I can say -- this was my first order with HP and will probably be my last one.

It is now November 4, and still no driver.
HP, this is not funny anymore. I have things to do and using a USB connection is NOT acceptable for me. I /we paid premium dollars to have that option and for some reason the 8500 model has this working by now, so why not us, the 6500 folks?
This is just not right.

Here is a link to "email Mark Hurd":
http://www.hp.com/hpinfo/execteam/email/hurd/index
The latest comment I got from the HP Tech Support is that "6500 Wireless Win 7 compatible drivers" will be out sometime next week.
You can call them also at 1-800-474-6836.
As I said, what a mess!

I'm in the same boat. I purchased my 6500 wireless in September, knowing I was going to upgrade my Vista laptop to Win 7 as soon as it was released. I haven't called tech support yet, but from what I've read here, I guess I shouldn't waste my time.
I'm able to print from the Win7 machine with the USB cable plugged in and I can print wireless from 2 other computers running XP. All of my scanning programs are on the Win7 machine so this is not helpful.
When I attempted to update the HP Solutions Center I got a message that new software would be availble for Win7 in late January 2010. This is really unacceptable.
