My Officejet has worked perfectly with my Mac since early last year. About 3 months ago, it began crashing each time I tried to open the scan function. I eventually uninstalled the HP software, reinstalled it and all worked fine for a month.
Then it began again, so i uninstalled and reinstalled. That worked for another month.
Now the reinstall is only working for a day and we strart with the crashing problem......
It's driving me NUTS!
I have the latest Mac software updates.....any other suggestions?

Hi,
Please completely remove any installed HP software as following, then check for any progress:
Step one: uninstall the software using the scrubber:
**Please be aware that performing the next steps will remove any installed HP Software.
1. Click on Go menu (Click the desktop, then look at the menu in the bar at the top of the page)
2. Select Applications
3. Select the Hewlett-Packard folder
4. Double-click HP Uninstaller application
5. Follow the uninstallation till prompted to select a device to uninstall
6. Press and hold Control + Alt + Cmd keys on the keyboard simultaneously while you click on Uninstall
7. approve any prompt to uninstall any HP Software.
Step two: Reset the Printing System:
*Be aware that resetting the printer system will remove any existing print queue and reset any customized driver settings.
Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences .
Select Print & Fax.
Right-click (or Ctrl + click) your product in the Printers list in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system .
Click OK to confirm the reset.
Type your user Name and Password .
Click OK . The printing system resets.
Step three: Repair the disc permissions:
1. Open the the Applications folder.
2. Go to the Utilities folder.
3. Double-click on Disk Utility.
4. Select the hard drive containing the boot volume.
5. Go to the First Aid tab and select Repair Disk Permissions.
Note: This process may take several minutes depending on the Mac and amount of permissions that need to be repaired. The Progress Log will indicate when the proccess has been completed.
Step four: install the latest software:
Step five: install any available HP Update:
- Click the Apple menu (
), and then click Software Update . Software Update checks for available updates. - In the Software Update window, if you see an available HP software update, select it and then click Install .
Now follow for any improvement.
Please let me know in any case you may see any further issue.
Regards,
Shlomi

OK, so far ..... so good! Everything is working again. BUT all my previous uninstall / reinstalls worked fine too initially. So, I'm going to wait and see how long this fix lasts.

I also am having many problems with Apple Mail crashing and other Apps crashing after upgrading to Lion. Reseting Printing system REMOVES ALL PRINTERS, Including my Acrobat Printer, which now I can't seem to reinstall.
After reinstalling I still have issues.

Well, I'm pleased to report that your fix sorted out my scanning problem. So thanks!
BUT.....
I am now getting the following message: Your Mac OS X startup disk has no more space" - this error pops up constantly, regardless of how many applications I am running. Closing them all does not help.
I have googled this error and found many Mac users with the same problem - but HP offers no solutions!
I have had to uninstall all my HP drivers to stop this error; and now I am reluctant to reinstall them - but I need to use my printer!
Any advice???

Belugabvi,
That error is regarding your computer hard drive. Your hard drive is almost completely full and you would need to either remove things you are not using or upgrade to a larger hard drive. The error is irrelevant to the HP software, you only received it because the software you installed took up the last remaning space on your hard drive.
Do you have any old software you do not use, old videos, or pictures? I would remove any software you no longer use and make sure you trash is emptied.
Hope this helps!

Shlomi,
HELP!!!!!! You are the only one who seems to be able to sort my Mac vs HP problems out!
I had to follow your suggestions again to uninstall / repair and reinstall my HP printer software - for the full story, see my other posts below) but now, the scan function is not working at all!
If I try scan from the computer, the program hangs until I "force quit" it
If I try scan from the printer, it says it can't find the computer.
I am at my wit's end as I need the scan function urgently!
Please please please, what do you suggest????
